Help me not be the victim of a ninja...

Anybody have any tips to reduce the amount of items that are stolen from you in pugs?

I like to play in groups vs solo, but just got fed up today when a unique was ninja'd from me. I am a caster and don't have the greatest ping, so sometimes it takes a second to pick something up.

Do I just need to stick with playing friends?

This until you either improve your comp or your internet...or both. You cant help it if its a case of ping. If its you being slow on the draw, you might wanna try to fight closer. Try being closer to the battle anyway. It might help overall.

There is no such thing as ninjaing in a FFA system.
When your name goes off the item, anyone can pick it up.
Unless the item is in your inventory, it is not yours.
Play solo or with friends.
Carry a quicksilver at all times. Get it before they do.
Make the group yourself then YOU can set loot rules.
Add people! The less randoms the better.
Be nice. Congratulate people on levels/drops. It's harder to steal from a nice guy than a jerk.

That's about all you can do. You might want to consider joining a guild on the forums. People will be far less likely to ninja.

Hiyas

I personally play either solo, or with guildies. I never have problems.

As a ranged class, what I typically find myself doing is damaging from affar and when the rare mob is about 5% hp, i would rush forward with granite/speed and anticipate the drops. You need to prioritize all the yellows under your name first, followed by currencies and 4L+ whites.

The currency items are tricky because when they show up they have a person's name under it so it results in 2 rows. When the timer runs out the item only takes up 1 row. You need to account for this change during the timer countdown.

Lastly, when you click the item, if another player blocks you, you must reclick and repath around him. The best strategy is to get in close proximity before clicking the item. I prefer to hold down run and move right up against the item before madly clicking it. This helps prevent the blockers.

Sometimes latency can be a problem, so if your in america, don't play in a europe game and vice versa. But typically for drops that has your name on it, a quicksilver flask run will almost always ensure success in picking up the item. When the items really start to shower, itll be all about prioritization that wins out.
Qucksilver flasks seem to help a lot, click the item then pop a flask you'll fly to it if you're far away.
Respect is given to those who give it in return.
Thanks all for the tips, very helpful! I like the idea of joining a guild and finding people to run groups with normally. Going to look into that.

Cheers
