Some observations about reroll orbs (alchemy, chaos, divine, blessed, ...)

The higher the item level the better % and mods should be! I mean we find lvl 60 items with lvl 24 stats :( Hard enough finding this items. Same with most uniq items and rares... a lot of the stats are crap I think there should be a new class of items that drop (Red) and they have any mods in the game on them.. a helm for example with critical chance/IAS/Spell damage/ and so on... a very rare class of items that people will actually want and use! |

Have you guys never played loot games before?? This is a cornerstone of the gameplay, that item generation is totally random (within reason, so obviously bow mods wont spawn on a sword for example)
Uniques is a different issue and they do most likely need a bit of love, but rares are fine as is. Some are great some are disappointing, thats the way it should be. |

" If thats your opinion, but hey thats luck for you, thats what loot games are about. Despite its MMO trappings this game is a loot game, based around the concept made famous by Diablo 2. I think we are lucky to have any ability to reroll mods as it is, and yet people want rares to spawn with set minimum stats... how much of an easy ride do people want? Most people play loot games for that 1 in a 1000 special rare that you keep forever, thats what makes them special when they do appear. |

I wouldn't call it luck when you look over the inventories of 16 mules and 2 Stashpages...I would consider that as a nice sample size...and 85-90% of the weapons and 60-70% of the armor pieces weren't worth keeping them although I biased towards keeping them. I would call that "most" ;)

" OK if you want to get bogged down in maths. Most rares have around 4 mods on them right? Whats the odds do you think that a rare will roll with all 4 mods of use to your build on an item type you desire with all those mod values at the right level?? Its alot less than a 50/50 chance. Its probably more like about 5% chance of it being good. BUT even if you say its a 50/50 chance that any 1 mod will be good/bad, then luck dicatates around 50% of those would be ok rares having 1 or 2 useful mods, about 25% being total crap (all 4 mods useless) and 25% being good or above average. Which is about the quantities I have experienced and almost exactly the quantities you describe. Last edited by RodHull#2035 on Jan 13, 2012, 11:32:40 AM

so what again was wrong again on my statement that most rares are crap?

Cause I dont consider most of them crap, most are average or OK, some are good, a few are crap.
Thats quite different to MOST are crap. |

In the long run (read: after you played 2 to 4 chars and "hoarded" some rares) you won't care for rares that are "ok"...e.g. lets say you have a rare str chest piece with 1 good mod like > +50% armor, when you find it while carrying something even more crappy, you will use it of course but later on you will already wear something better in most cases (because even enough magic items will already be bette). When I want something with 1 good stat I can ID some magics.
With weapons it's getting even way worse because of the +ED as must-have on physical and worst on possibel caster weapons, with stats like "+20% spell damage, +10% critical chance with this weapon, mana on kill and 2 resistances"...yeah +20% spell damage is an "ok" stat, but still that item is crap. | |
" Totally disagree, and with respect I have played pretty much every loot ARPG ever made, in most cases extensively. Rares in this game are identical in function and form to most other similar games, so I cant see having 4 or 5 characters suddenly changing my opinion. Rares are not supposed to be necessarily better than standard magics, they just have more chance to be worth using cause they have more base mods on them to begin with. You are viewing them in the wrong way, they are in essence not meant to be always better than magics, just to have more potential to be useful than magics. Case in point my level 99 shaman back in the day I was a D2 freak had a beastly axe which I never managed to better, it was a standard magic item (with a rune socketed into it but thats by the by) in all my play time I never found one rare or unique which was better than that weapon. Now uniques and set items (not that this game has set items yet) are different, if you wanted to make a case for uniques being mostly crap I would agree, but rares are no more mostly crap than any standard magic item but they are often more useful than a standard magic item. Even taking two identical weapons, both with same base dam, both with same damage mod, one is magic, the other is rare. The rare also has 3 sundry other mods on it, lets say +1 mana per kill, 15% fire res and +10 str. Granted those mods aren't going to set any pulses racing but they are better than NOT having them. And the potential exists that they could all have ended up being damage/acc focused. Last edited by RodHull#2035 on Jan 13, 2012, 2:15:18 PM
