Yea minion life nodes are not necessary. My golems have around 26k hp atm. Usually only bosses / lab traps kill them. When a boss brings them to life life, they explode for massive damage to the boss. drastically updated the build guide featuring the life version. I have been testing it on standard and it works great! Life version is very cheap to gear - helm costs 1 ex atm on Perendus,rumi's = 15C, and geofri's costs 1 chaos. just 5L it yourself. If you are looking for something different, give this build a go! Finally back home again, was away for 5 days. cant wait to continue playing my witch. Currently im lvl 43 and enjoying the OPness of 3 lvl 12 stone golems that are lvl 56 each and hit like a fucking truck. I dislike leveling casters, they don't get fun for me until mid to high level with support gems. Luckily I made it last night to 34 and used my tabula rasa to 6L a fire golem, and oh man it was way more fun.
