Currency Parser - Path of Exile Toolkit - poetoolkit.com

I love all the misguided posts about economics.

I'm a little curious what this tool is supposed to actually help with. Since it needs to be configured with correct exchange rates the only people who can use it without exposing themselves to a potential scam are the people who know the exchange rates well enough to not need it.

It does look like it's a pretty good attempt at a currency converter though.
Thanks for the feedback and heads-up, anubite ;)

POE is not different. Today, 1 alch is 2 chaos, tomorrow, it might be a 1:1 or a 1:3 conversion. GPCs and Exalteds are even less stable.

It seems to me it's pretty stable - seems like for about 2 weeks now, there have only been tiny shifts. Could you give an example where suddenly from one day to the next, there will be huge differences ? Won't the values of orbs always be tied to 'droprate x usability' - which are probably pretty linear too ? I can imagine that GPC's will devaluate a bit over time when everyone has Q20 gems and chisels might increase in value once everyone's doing maps, but it seems to me that the regular orbs will always remain just as useful to craft items, no ? So as long as GGG doesn't alter the droprates, won't they remain pretty stable ?

There's always the 'running average' for people who choose not to override these defaults with their own values. And also, no matter how well you know exchange rates, I doubt the average guy will be able to, on sight, calculate the highest of these offers, for instance:

2 exalted 6 divine 12 gcp 3 regal 40 chaos
vs
1 exalted 21 gpc 60 chaos 20 chisels

Using my tool, just copy/pasting these offers, you can compare them :)

Great Site but definitely needs that option to set your own conversion ratings (I see no reason to use it in its current form). A spreadsheet can do the same of course, but I like the layout and the feature to make images you can link. Keep up the good work.

As for the suggestion that tools like these try to standardize prizes, semi-standardized dynamic prices are already there (and will get less dynamic once the economy settles).

I think rune values in Diablo II are the best example of this. Prices of runes are mostly determined by rarity and usefulness, which largely determine by offer and demand, resulting in semi-standardized prizes. There is some wiggle room, and it depends a bit on the age of the server, but most runes have a fairly stable relative value because of the frequency they are used to trade with.

edit:
Can I make two suggestion for your site?
1) integrate the ability to change relative orb values on the same page as the "currency parser" (also useful to see the values you set yourself)
2) skip the mainpage and place the parser page directly under http://www.poetoolkit.com (unless you plan on adding more features to your website of course)

As people play more or less, the values will change. The more currency you have, the less value over time.

It's a great idea, and I wish you success, but I think you'd have to spend a lot of time in game keeping on eye on relative value via trades to keep it "current."

@Gwydyon: Actually I'm hoping that the collected data of all players/users will accurately reflect the actual currency values... Will have to work on an algorithm that values recent updates more, and rules out extremes to ignore trolls,... but I'll see how that goes.

@doemaarwat: Thanks for the suggestions.
- I think I will indeed add a way to change your own exchange rates on the same page as the parser.
- I can understand that the main page is pretty useless now :) But I indeed plan to add more tools over time, perhaps I'll use the main page for news updates or something. But you're right that atm it's only cumbersome, so maybe I'll switch the index to the parser this evening until there's actually a reason for a welcome page :)

Started working on the exchange rate functionality... not as easy as I thought! :)
Think I'm going to work with some fixed values for orbs that can be vendored:
- Alteration orb and chromatic orb both have a value of 1
- Jeweller's orb has a value of 2, etc.
- All the other orbs and items are based off of those and can be freely chosen.

Also, I moved the code to a private repository and I minified the javascript code to prevent it from being stolen and used elsewhere. If you still want to aid in the development, let me know.

Updated the image link style to better fit this forum background.

I'm thinking of something like this. I'm wondering if I should actually follow poeex and value an alteration orb more (1.25) than a chromatic... seems contra-intuitive.

Any feedback is much appreciated!

Pretty sweet tool, and seems to handle input well. With the ability to see and adjust exchange rates, I think I would use it regularly.
