Hoped, in fact.

Given that the game went into OB less than a month ago, guess where we are on this graph. :P

LOL at that graph. That's not what happens with most games. I'm not saying it can't happen with POE but LOL.

SWTOR, Warhammer Online, Age of Conan never recovered like that graph promises.

A certain percentage of the players that try and dislike a game never return.

Confirmed on XFire.

POE isn't dead but it certainly has lost players already. I don't think they expect to be a huge hit. I think they know they have a niche game here.

D3 sold 12m, only 3000 are online right now.

could be worse.

None of those are even remotely startups or new ideas. :(
And 90%+ of startups do fail. The graph isn't a promise, it's a possibility (though the starting part is always the same).

Your 2nd number is false.. just so you know.

PoE is still in open beta. When it's actually reviewed and has some marketing done on it there will be a huge surge of new players...

Also nice sensationlist title. PoE is very active and doing great. No game retains their day 1 population. Some rapidly decrease, others stagnate... a small minority experience growth as games get updated.

Pretty much. Any game, especially f2p ones start out like that. Everyone checks it out (nothing to lose) and those who like it stick around.

That's only normal really. Eventually though numbers go up again if the game is good and some marketing and advertising is happening. Word of mouth can do a lot as well.
I started playing 2 weeks ago, and my fuck is this game gorgeous! Good that I was anti-social before cause I just can't get off of this game ;)

It's the game that I've been waiting sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo long to play, thanks GGG you guys got me hooked ;)

game of 2013 in my opinion.
