PoE already shrinking/dead?

Am I the only one noticing that PoE lost a lot of its playerbase already? I hope I'm wrong, but the forums seem dead, the party numbers ingame aren't as many as it used to be a few days/weeks ago.

Some known streamers quit, some well known players quit. Even Kripp's latest videos didnt have as many viewers as the previous ones. A lot of my ingame friends didn't show up for at least a week.

Is my impression wrong?

Open Beta starts.
New people flock to the game.
Open Beta Runs for a while.
Many of the new people realize that the game is not to their tastes and leave.

This pattern of behavior was expected.

I would agree with this. The influx from open beta has tailed off, and a lot of the new people will have left for other games.

I wouldn't say that the game is 'dead' though, or even shrinking- just that the initial rush is over. :)
I'm not a n00b- I'm a Online Game Floor Examination Expert.

This is what every startup/new product looks like. EDIT: *at the start. I can't see the future.
Given that the game went into OB less than a month ago, guess where we are on this graph. :P

Sensationalist title?

On a more serious note - there would undoubtedly be a little shrinking as people try the game after Open Beta, then some of them decide they don't like it.

But shrinking as a whole - I doubt it. Would need to check actual numbers before saying something for sure, though, who knows after the Open Beta surge. But dead? $2.5 million in closed beta. That's when there was a (slight) pay wall. PoE isn't going anywhere any time soon.

And while I don't follow any streamers, I'm pretty sure "some well known streamers" quitting would affect jack shit in the grand scheme of things.

Am I wrong? Streamers no doubt popularize a game, but surely a few or oven several dozen quitting can't make a difference to anything. If you enjoy playing, you won't stop enjoying it because so and so got pissy on some random stream.

As for me, I got my first character through normal and now I've stopped playing for a bit. The end of Act 3 just stressed me out (as you can see, I'm definitely not a hardcore (not the league) player). I will definitely, 100%, come back, though,, and soon. Don't worry about the game because a slice of its community visible to you took a dip.

the game met my expectations & more. maybe some novelty has runned off, but it has more then enough in tank for me to stay, which i intend to do.
also, it met great player reaction & word of mouth so when full launch starts and some buck being spent on marketing, i think we would see even more of a influx then in closed beta. it had next to zero media coverage and still got great player numbers.

I don't really notice anything. I'm level 75 on hardcore and as soon as I make a public party for my maps I still instantly within a minute fill all 5 spots. Leveling new characters I still see tons of open public games to the point there's a scroll button to get through them all. Granted when I hit merciless act 3 on hardcore there were always like 2 or 3 public games but I expected that as the number of people who made it this far on hardcore is very small.

The only players I see playing less are those who played for 16 hours a day trying to grind levels since launch. If I played that much I'd prolly be burnt out to lol.

And the streamers you are referring to are kongor and kungen, and the reason they quit is because they chose to join us on hardcore and can't seem to make it past 70 as they always dying. They are used to pay to win model and faceroll content with super powered gear. In path of exile there's no buying your way to end game you actually have to play and be good :p

Game is far from dead. In fact it's still going to pick up steam. In terms of Krip lower view count, it's a FRIDAY night I sure hope most people take 1 day to go out with friends, get laid and do something productive for once :p
I assume this game will go the way of EVE Online. Initial presentation brings a flood, a good amount leave, a medium-sized population stays and is very loyal. Trickles of new players who decide to get past the learning curve stays.

No game can expect to keep the player base of the first week of Open beta long term.

It's why GGG wasn't going to buy more servers than they needed. They knew the servers required during the first week were going to be more than enough servers for a very long time; if not forever.
