Trendspotting: POE Playerbase almost halved on Steam alone since the release of Awakening

What great click bait. Considering the game is still higher than it was a year ago.....

but hey statistics are hard right?

Its alot higher then 2 years ago but alot lower then 1 month ago, what do you want to say with that? Statistics is hard but not that hard. The drop in players is harder then ever though.

The problem is that you get desolate leagues after a short period of time.

Is this a good thing?

Don't know, don't care.

All I'm saying is: these numbers show that the game gets played a lot.
So player base looks pretty healthy.

But thats not what the number shows, where do you get that from?

They actually say that the number of players is declining faster then ever before. The number of ppl who hit lv90 or whatever doesnt matter one bit when you try to see how the game is doing.

The number of current players is what matters and whats important in a game you balance around trading in a huge community. So no, playing alot in the beginning and then stop playing is really bad for the game. (also, alot of ppl would have played on if they could actually get maps to play)

The numbers are higher than they were most of the time in PoE's past. PoE's past also allowed GGG to grow steadily from like ~15 people to now 50+ people, with new, bigger offices and shit. So we can conclude that the game indeed is healthy :)
GGG banning all political discussion shortly after getting acquired by China is a weird coincidence.

Statistic is hard because people don't look at it. Legitimately click on steam charts and then click "All".

"It is alot higher then 2 years ago."

No it isn't, it's the exact same numbers as release and 2.0 release. (32k).

but alot lower then 1 month ago,
5k vs 32k which then lowered down to half which is similar to 1.0 release.

The drop in players is harder then ever though.
Yet again not true, and 1.3 had a drop of 10k to 5k players which was 50% again. Do we conclude 1.3 was a bad patch or some shit.

The only problem here is that people come back to the game when we have an update and slowly leave. Which is more or less normal in a game with content that eventually ends.

Yet again I am not saying 2.0 is worse or better then 1.3, I am just merely pointing out how extremely flawed(or lack at any effort really) most people at looking at steam charts.

Ehm.. There's just one problem with this, these players leaves the game slowly after the first month of a League, because there's nothing else to do, and the droprates in this game are so horrendous that they see no improvements in their character, so it's wasted time sticking around after that 1 month.

That will happen all the time.
But there will also be new players on a regular basis.
So who cares? Players come and go in every game, it doesn't tell you anything about success as long as you don't know the exact numbers.

The fact that I have to be freaking lvl 86 to be in warbands ladder after one month shows this game is played a ton by a ton of people.
In past leagues, it was ~lvl 82 at the end of a league.

It's mostly due to high level area built into the core game like dried lake etc ...
Leveling to 80 has never been easier than now :)
Hf :)
The steam charts are not bad at all for a game like PoE, with all its downsides and "downsides". Together with non-Steam players it means there are probably about 30.000 people playing it at any one time, and that is probably way more than enough for GGG to keep growing. And seeing the pictures of their awesome new office, no doubt whatsoever that they are doing well and expecting to do well in the future.
Just wait until November when Fallout 4 comes out - pretty much RIP every other game including PoE.

That is all.
What you have to realize is that these types of threads have been popping up after every major content patch since CB. People come when a content patch goes live, and then they leave. This is the way of things. The game isn't dying, quite the opposite despite some poorly received parts of 2.0 (map progression mostly).

I can say that fewer ppl play not by some retarded charts but by XYZ trade... almost noone is online when you want to buy somehting.................................. ... .. .
