Give everyone 1 or 2 passive skill tree RESETS
I'm all for a respec button, maybe with a few days cooldown or one for every 10 levels you make.

no there is no need for cooldown, just maybe restriction for it being available in town areas only.
why? 'respect once in a few days' goes against beta concept completely. after beta is over then they can think of some actual respect mechanics. Last edited by fartloud#6410 on Dec 6, 2011, 9:17:35 AM

I have to give my +1 to the respec people here.
GGG assume that if you mess up your char, you will just roll it again. They assume if you want to test a different path you will just roll it again. They are wrong. Plain and simple. Wrong. If my witch becomes useless, or i make some mistakes on it, will i reroll another char? Yeh probably. It wont be a witch though. It'll be something else, and I see other people expressing similar mind-sets. So now because I can't reset this witch I just stop playing her. Potential feedback is lost. Lets pretend I get to lvl 66 and I want to try a different path. Still a witch, but maybe I just want to try a different build. Will I roll another witch and lvl her to 66? No, I will probably just forget about the idea and play either A my witch how she is or B make a new char of a diff class. Potential feedback is lost. I understand GGG doesn't want people respeccing in release to go from bows to axes (or whatever their example was) and I understand they want feedback on how certain characters and builds play from lvl 1 all the way up. However, this is out of touch with reality. Let's face it. Many MANY people simply will not reroll the same class to try out small changes, even trying medium to big changes, rerolling the same class will be uncommon. Im sure a few people will do it, but will hundreds of people do it? NO, POTENTIAL FEEDBACK IS LOST. |

"Talk about losing potential feedback... You're grinding past the current content, and want to respec to "test" another build that's going to start past the current content? What kind of feedback does that provide? You'll have no idea at all why your build works the way it does, well or poorly, because you gained every passive at the same time at the hardest part of the game. This makes for a terrible feedback situation. All you would be able to do is constantly respec until you create a build you like. I understand that people want to enjoy playing the game alongside testing during the beta, but at some point we have to accept that GGG wants some specific feedback from us. They want feedback on how builds progress through the game at all available levels, not just how they work in Chaos (which isn't even a decent evaluation because it's not properly balanced yet). If you don't want to play a certain class because you think maxing 1 character should be enough, then take the time to max the other classes. If you do all that and desire to change your spec, you're just going to have to roll a new build. Don't assume the rest of the testing community will provide the feedback that you can't because you refuse to play low and mid levels again. If we had respecs, they would be widely abused. this is not an mmo people, it takes a few hours to finish normal.
if you refuse to test the way they have asked then give your spot to someone else. ~SotW HC Guild~

" You seem to have missed my point entirely so I'll try and explain it, again. People, realistically, will not be bothered to reroll the same class to test many different passive skill tree builds. There are 2 choices, 1 give respecs and get SOME feedback. You wont get complete feedback on how certain builds are during low lvl progression but you will get SOME feedback on how they work at high lvls. Option 2, don't give respecs, don't get any feedback. You'll get some feedback on ONE build from lvl 1 to a high lvl. But there are DOZENs of builds you will not get feedback on AT ALL. It's not about creating a perfect situation where everyone gives 100% complete feedback. With or without respecs, that is just not possible outside of theory. And you also say we wont know why our character performs the way it does, because we got all our points at the same time. Not true, and fairly narrow-minded. You haven't taken in to account if my character works well, or works poorly, at high level or at any level that isn't 1, i can respec and change a few nodes around to learn what effect it has and learn WHY my character performs how it does. This opens a whole new avenue of testing. People may not know INSTANTLY why their character performs as it does, however they now have the tools to find out. |

That is an often ignored point.
Respecs are not just wanted to "LOL TRY COMPLETELY DIFFERENT BUILD." They are also wanted to compare and contrast the practical application of taking 10 points out of let's say stun passives into life leach passives, etc. To compare +elemental damage passives with crit damage passives for DPS. Etc. These kind of adjustments make it infinitely easier to actually test balance and don't require rerolling a character just to see the variability inherent in switching a few passive nodes while retaining the same build. If you want to complain about "teh abuse," why don't you go crusade for a hard level 60 level cap until open beta. type /ladder to see the full extent of already existing abuse that is a far greater problem than respecs would be. " i was ALMOST willing to change my mind, then i re-read it. this sounds like you are just asking for a way to test and maximize builds. ~SotW HC Guild~ Last edited by scorpitron#3820 on Dec 6, 2011, 3:38:10 PM

For me, I'd expect that access to easy and quick respecs would just end up in the main with people chasing the cookie cutter builds.
The people with the powerful builds today are the ones who've tested, reviewed and planned. I'd imagine the beta information is much more valuable data to GGG on seeing how each build fares in the game, rather than seeing a couple of cookie cutter builds per class just rush to the end game. feign, from www.theamazonbasin.com

"Assuming that no one rerolls characters is the fallacy in this argument. It's simply not true. " "I understand that you would be able to respec to change a few things around with majorly altering your current build (I previously said "All you would be able to do is constantly respec until you create a build you like," which follows the same thought process). To do this effectively as people are saying, you would need a lot of respecs, not the few that were the original topic. Also, if you were to attempt to try multiple different builds, you would need even more respecs. In short, it would come to the point of requesting unlimited respecs. "But... I'm not complaining, nor do I want to. I agree with GGG's stance on respecs, therefore I have no complaints on the matter. It seems to me that people are complaining about not having them. It's obvious that there are many players who care more about getting high on the ladder than testing as much of the game as possible. Give them respecs and they'll just min/max and continue on their ladder grind, making almost no difference at all in the amount of feedback-producing testing. Sure, they'll be able to find out what works best for their builds, and provide some feedback on how well certain passive setups work on mobs 20 levels below them. I'm sure that's important for balance, and all that. Closed Beta/Alpha Tester back after a 10-year hiatus.
