GGG completely giving me mixed signals. This is bad news.

Races in a point and click game are pointless to start with, borderline ridiculous.
Let's have an online gaming contest of seeing who:
1) Has the fastest connection/loading speed, cause obvious this matters
2) Can click the fastest, because builds are obviously pointless in races. There's just one build, the fastest one
3) Has better luck at dropping a pair of boots that has +30 move speed, or finds lightning warp the fastest
As for the laptop prize, lol is all I can say.
I'll go to an actual racing game to play races kthnx because that actually takes skill.

GGG banning all political discussion shortly after getting acquired by China is a weird coincidence.

he isnt particularly wrong about the points except fast connection and finding lightning warp, but the conclusion makes little sense and is just subjective

I can say, actual nascar races are pointless to start with

let see who
1) has fastest car or best tires, cause obvious this matters
2) can turn the wheel the fastest, on speedway theres just one gear- the fastest one
3) can luck out and avoid the crashing cars

my conclusion= nascar races are pointless

Old Method: Run to where the new waypoint is, be sad there isn't a way point, run the incredibly short distance to the mud flat zone, zone in, grab the old waypoint that is at the door, zone back out, run the incredibly short distance to where the new way point is, run to tidal island, kill hillrake, use a portal or logout, return to town, get reward, that waypoint to mud flats, continue racing.

As I recall, pre-2.0 the entrance to the Tidal Island could be kind of random where it was along the water; The Coast was FAR less consistent than what I see today. Sometimes the waterline was contiguous, sometimes it's more broken up with an "away from shore" portion you have to pass through. And the Tidal Island could be almost anywhere, up to many screens away; in such a case it could prove VERY impractical to run over, go through to the Mud Flats, then run back, just to go to Tidal Island; often this could result in adding more distance than it saved by virtue of being able to log out after killing Hailrake.

Given that in racing, par time to beat Merveil is something in the 12-18 minute range, the time it takes to run the distance of the Tidal Island (around 25-30 seconds) makes a pretty substantial difference.

And do note that's just the FIRST of the major changes. (I specifically mentioned it just BECAUSE it was the very first) Given that waypoints are no longer "randomly" placed in ANY zone, (they're all located in a very landmark-specified place, typically an objective) this REALLY impacts strats for racing. In terms of waypoint placement, probably the biggest are the new Riverways and the change to have one in the Wetlands right next to Loratta's new location.

Slight changes to the map that artificially increase your clear time by a few mins by being a dedicated racer still means you drastically are hours ahead of a normal player and beyond reach of a casual player.

I have no idea why you think that the slight changes to each act suddenly invalidates a racer's skill and racing knowledge of the map. Unless your "racing knowledge" is blinding you to the fact that killing piety in 30 mins (as oppose to 12-18 mins, being generous with the extra time it takes) because your not used to the new map is 2-4x better since most people kill her in 1-2 hours. (Apparently it also takes people a good portion of the day to finish one act too)

Which is my point, the best dedicated racers would had won the labtop anyway without beta access, it doesn't suddenly become a free for all because they added an extra short act.

I paid for beta access but i didn't actually use it, i just thought i would support them. Also I could buy 5 of those laptops by working my job in the same amount of time of the contest. lol. OP probably just needs to stop being a crybaby. Excuse me while i go play on my Alienware Desktop i earned the money for in less time it took them to win that contest.
