GGG completely giving me mixed signals. This is bad news.

I watched that happen. It was pretty hilarious. I recall one comment I saw summed it up well: "That was the most anticlimatic thing I've ever seen."

It also keyed me into understanding that in the new version, portal scrolls are an essential part of any totem-user's build.

They gave absolutely no chance for non-beta players to get a grip of the new content and map layout. They used this as a chance to boost their exposure numbers (and works as a soft advertisement for Dell, which is ALWAYS in bad taste for any gamer). When the next expansion drops, there will too be an opportunity for beta players to get a go-ahead in beta experience.

When it comes to these kinds of launch-day races...

1 - Alpha invites get automatic invites to future expansion CBs.
2 - Popular streamers get automatic access to future exp CBs.
3 - Hell, even some streamers got GGG developers on speed-dial!

All in all, what OP is doing is just stirring the Troll's nest in GGG forums. If you'd like to gripe about the unfairness of races/leagues, I suggest you do it where people replying will be less slanted against you.

Beta access is available to everyone considering the support packages (even at the lowest tier). This is all about money - and you're hooked, lined, and sinkered! Enjoy PoE!

I'll be sure to let you know if I actually need to portal for a boss fight. Thus far, no need; Malachai's adds have proven sufficient to quickly refill my flasks. Couple that by going in with gear that isn't abysmal...

You know even if there was no beta access you still would had lost completely to a dedicated racer. Spoiler the game is the same from act 1-3.

People acting like because they add an extra act that would allow them to catch up when they already started act 4 while vast majority of people are still in act 1. People in hardcore could take their time in act 4 normal and go extremely slow and still be ridiculously ahead of you.

Starting almost any kind of race 3 HOURS late is probably going to put you at a disadvantage...

I once turned up 3hours late to the 100m sprints, happy to come in 2nd place.

If you put on your full plate mail, and I throw hundreds of toothpicks at you, you'll basically not feel it.

If someone catapults a whole tree at you, don't expect the Armour to prevent as much of the damage.

I take it you're not much of a racer yourself, then...

...As Acts 1-3 were HEAVILY changed, and it makes a BIG difference in racing. For one, the addition of the waypoint in The Coast changes the speed strategy heavily; for strategies that involve killing Hailrake/getting the medicine chest for the quicksilver flask, this can be a big time-save: grab the waypoint on your way to the tidal island, kill Hailrake and grab the medicine chest, then log-out/back in, THEN take the waypoint back.

The above is quicker than the old path, requiring you to LEAVE the Tidal Island, and make it to the Mud Flats waypoint, take that back to Lioneye's watch, and then jump back. And that's just one example of how the arrangement has changed.

Old Method: Run to where the new waypoint is, be sad there isn't a way point, run the incredibly short distance to the mud flat zone, zone in, grab the old waypoint that is at the door, zone back out, run the incredibly short distance to where the new way point is, run to tidal island, kill hillrake, use a portal or logout, return to town, get reward, that waypoint to mud flats, continue racing.

New method:Run to where the new waypoint is, be glad there is a way point, run to tidal island, kill hillrake, use a portal or logout, return to town, get reward, that waypoint to coast, run the incredibly short distance to the mud flats, zone in, continue racing.

Difference between two mehtods: 1 loading screen (from mud flats back to Coast), roughly 20 steps (only one run of incredibly short distance as opposed to two)

Time saved: 5 seconds? With a slow loading computer?

Yep..that's a huge change....

sure there were advantages to being in the beta. and best believe nearly all serious racers got beta access to learn the changes

however, the poster you're quoting point was that unless they were comparable racers, it wouldn't have mattered much. best racers are way ahead of the pack. basically it would matter only if one is a great, established racer who never looked or saw closed beta content.

now the op was clearly made to stir stuff up/troll, but thing is racers have well established times. I was watching raizqt, and he was basically saying its over when he was about to do merveil and #1 group on the ladder was just starting act 2. ie, a 5 minute difference. now this might seem ridiculous for non-racers like us, its not that far-fetched I guess.
Races in a point and click game are pointless to start with, borderline ridiculous.
Let's have an online gaming contest of seeing who:
1) Has the fastest connection/loading speed, cause obvious this matters
2) Can click the fastest, because builds are obviously pointless in races. There's just one build, the fastest one
3) Has better luck at dropping a pair of boots that has +30 move speed, or finds lightning warp the fastest
As for the laptop prize, lol is all I can say.
I'll go to an actual racing game to play races kthnx because that actually takes skill.
