Hypothetical: Legacy flavour text?

I don´t think Hollywood is going to remove all hanged man scenes,
just because some individuals have "feelings" because of some related tied themselves up.
Or because of movies providing a very strong model role.

This whole "getting offended on 2 lines of text on the internet"-thing is compareable to all those
exploding american cars once they get a paintscratch.

The current world is futile and laughable at best, hypothetically.

Oh please, this isnt about some movie done in the past or some game for that matter, its about games being created today. And its not like that flavor text had anything other than transphobia to offer, so good riddance.

Or are you saying that such flavor text would improve the gameplay experience for you or that it would ruin the plot of the game somehow?
Sorry, my humanophobie almost made me not respond.

The chances are higher to find one offended by PoEternity´s 13man-tree
than by a small tombstonetext.

Spoiler
I just would have to show this to my Ex, and she would run away.

Her brother actually did suicide that way after crashing his 5day old car paid by daddy.

"Tree´s are ok, tombstones are not"-logic, well done internet!
Tree should be removed.

The limerick in the OP is something we've discussed as being an example of flavour text that we'd reject if it were submitted for a divination card. It came up because I think the day we announced them someone made a reddit thread saying they were going to submit exactly that.

We posted what would be done in the case of flavour text needing to be changed, and what might require it to be changed in this thread:

  • You can't use material in the name or flavour text that belongs to someone else (for example, references to other games or stories). If we don't catch it in the initial check, we will change the card later.
  • You can't include hate speech or implied hate speech. If we're concerned about the flavour text on the card after it has been accepted, we'll change it.
  • We will reject cards if we don't feel that they're appropriate to be added to Path of Exile. However, we can reject cards for any reason at all. If we reject an idea, we'll let you know so you can design another.

This clearly advocates violence against men and is blatant misandry. I am personally offended, change this immediately.

"Always follow the biggest man you can find into battle.
He will draw the eyes of every bowman."

Biggest man!?!?! Clear patriarchy and misogyny. Women can be just as big and strong as men. and bowman, as if women can't use a bow. I am offended, change this immediately. Also, this unique is a reference to a song of ice and fire character, I am pretty damn sure you can't reference other games or stories in your flavour or name. How did this get through? oh my.

So many things to get offended by, I could see SJW's setting themselves on fire over these after feminists get triggered. Hypocrisy on GGG's part for not following their own words?

Im sorry, what does that tree have to do with flavor text? Flavor text can be offensive, that damn tree isnt.
As much as it bothers me to type it, I believe muting these things in a Role Playing Game dulls possibility and makes for a G rated game.

The individual being portrayed in the quote/text is likely a bigot -- context of what caused him to jump off the cliff being he accidentally slept w/ a man. If we were to start judging a game based upon the characters inside then what would POE be?

Think about it.

Piety: Her portrayal would be akin to Nazi Human Experiments and genocide on a massive scale if we are to believe all that is in Lunaris 3 is human blood.

Dominus: If I were to walk up to someone who looked like a Marauder and said: "I exiled an animal. Now you almost resemble a man, Karui." What would I be labeled? Is Dominus a Racist? And if so, should his text be removed?

The Coast: Dead babies everywhere. That is very insensitive to all the lost children in the world and those that have had miscarriages or lost a baby in some manner.

Torture: It's all over the place. Act 3 Lunaris, Act 3 Crematorium, etc. Torture isn't a very nice thing yet it is glamorized here.

I could go on and on. This is an RPG -- forcing kid gloves on the roles being played would make it feel too bland. Being a bigot isn't something we strive to be, but neither is a ton of things in this game...
Thanks for all the fish!
Just goes to show we live in a world of easily-offended sissies who think the world revolves around them.

It was flavor text on a god damn digital tombstone and the internet throws a fit. It's ridiculous, really.

Yeah, lets go back to the 50s and make women stay in the kitchen and let blacks do slave labor and be as homophobic and racist as humanly possible. That you used the term sissy is already an indication that you arent the kind of individual i want to meet in person.
Reduced to its basic elements, the flavor text in the OP is suggesting that accidental sex with a trans person is worthy of suicide. It's fucking offensive.

This is coming from someone who is subbed to r/tumblrinaction.

Back on the main point, I get the feeling that GGG has better sensibilities. They've already proven to me in beta that they are quite sensitive to social issues, and have gained my utmost respect and confidence in that area.

IF something were to make it past the guards, I believe GGG would correct the situation. Twitter storms happen at the drop of a hat, and the fart of a gnat. WGAF what a bunch of angry teenagers think, as long as GGG does the right thing in the end.

the 50's?
Let's go all the way back to europe at the dark ages and torture you to death if you tell you belong to the wrong religion or none at all. Or let's just kidnap you for slavery, take you to the jews who cut your balls off and sell you forward (christians and muslims were not allowed to castrate slaves, jews had no such qualms and were the go-to people for castration).

See how ridiculous your argument is? We don't live in the 50's, and understanding that getting offended by a "flavor text on a god damn digital tombstone" is not going to throw us back to that era. Not that the 50's (wherever that may be) was as "racist and homophobic" as you apparently think it was.
