GGG should have a more open policy about what BotW represents. Allow for different people to showcase different ideas. Expense shouldn't be a factor. If someone shows off their incredibly underpowered build that they thought was a kick to play... let them every so often, even if the build didn't even make it out through cruel.
I think the criteria should be if the build was well presented... not if it was effective or not.

I think the saddest thing lies in the comment box of the video, it shows how unreasonable some parts of the PoE community can be. Someone commented : "GGG nerfs block and makes a video to make it seem likes it's still viable, wtf", and he has the biggest number of thumbs up of the comment section. Basically what it looks like is this :
A : "Blok is ded nice nurfs wtf"
B : "Even if it is not the main goal of that video, it is an objective proof among other ones that block is clearly not useless".
A : "But Blok is ded nice nurfs wtf"
Retarded people Behind A : "Wow you really showed that guy I'm with you dude".
So true, it is sad to see that people still claims that block is dead, even in the comments under a video of a guy showing that Atziri can be beaten with relatively cheap gear and a block build.
It just shows how some people refuses to adapt to balance changes, and points fingers at GGG instead, 'OMG u nerfed block, gaem is ded!'

Funny thing is, the same people that cry "block nurf omg" now would never even ask for more block if it was introduced to the game in its "nerfed" state to begin with. Its the "they changed something that made my char more OP than it has to be" effect, people bitch because they had it, if they never had it there wasnt anything to complain now.
Ignore the whiners, you dont play for others, you play for yourself. The whiners are usually a minority anyways, always the same 20 or 30 names, the other few thousands and 10s of thousands or so are happy.

I try not to recommend builds like that for BotW, because the reaction then becomes "why suggest a build nobody can ever afford"?
An episode focused around a bunch of super powerful, ultra expensive builds might be interesting, but it's not what we'd usually go for. I also suspect that if you've got that kind of wealth, you probably know about those builds anyway.
In any case, picking builds for this series is very much a balancing act. No matter who a build targets, it's guaranteed to annoy some of the people that it didn't.
Those people usually have their own ideas of what the Build of the Week should be, and there's nothing wrong with that. I hope they get why other kinds of builds are featured though.
Ideally the BotW series should cover all sorts of build types, so there's usually room for those ideas in other episodes.
Thanks for recommending Sovyn's block build for BotW Dan, it is much appreciated.
And so refreshing to see that not only builds with insane clear speed and dps can make it into BotW.
I think it is important to get builds in BotW that are strong builds, but also easy for new players and/or cassuals to pick up and play without insane wealth required.
Somebody commented that there is nothing special about Sovyn's build, and I guess that what that person meant was exactly that no significant wealth or expensive items are required.
Well, I guess that what is special about the build is that it showcases that those people claiming that certain end-game content such as Atziri is gated, and only for rich people, are wrong. All content in PoE can indeed be beaten on a low budget with a well thought-out build.

I think it would be nice if there were a dedicated thread where people could "sell" (as in marketing pitch, not exchange of goods) their build to whomever is in charge of BotW in any particular season. Last time my build was in BotW, I basically did just that in a thread that was loosely focused around the subject in which a GGG staff was reading.
P.S. Dan_GGG: My build. DOOO EEEET.

Only reason to go block is to have fun with it. I've learned that people want to play good builds that are efficient. Block is so fucking far from efficient. You have to spend nearly all passive points to reach those block nodes and at least 3-4 gear pieces into blocking uniques and after all this investment you get a layer of defense that is purely RNG.
Atziri can be beaten with any cheapass build that just get enough damage to kill the adds (~10k aoe?) since all the damage in Atziri can be avoided. Killing Atziri proves nothing about a build.
So block is dead if you think like "Could I do as sturdy build with more damage and easier through some other way? Yes, I could." but it's not dead if you think like "Wow, this things lets me use Tempest Shield which can then curse, blind and freeze while I just stand there!"

Block and Spellblock remain the best defense mode in the game. You just can't solely rely on it all by itself anymore.

Well Shagsbeard, for once I have to say that I disagree with you.
While I love to see well presented and different perspectives to builds on the forums, I don't think a build should be BotW if it is not capable of beating at least Act 3 Merciless.
I believe that BotW is meant mainly for new players checking the website for hints on how to play the game, and they should not be lured into playing a build that will fail to complete Cruel. That would probably make many new players quit the game, never to return. Not the best policy for GGG I would say.
BotW should actually help new players finding a build that can help them get through their first play through of PoE fairly easily, and hopefully make them try their own builds afterwards.
I think a challenge forum for builds like the one you mention would be much more interesting. Players could then challenge others: 'Hey, anybody who can actually beat Cruel Dominus using this build?'
Now, that would be interesting :)

Which is why it was broken for a long time. Thank you for seeing that. You get a cookie.
