Map Drop Rate Is Shocking

Lol. Cool your jets.

The reason is because you still get tons of exp before than point from non map areas. Let's say you enter at 65. You lvl in maps til 73, but suddenly run out. Now, when you farm for maps, you will be receiving a huge exp penalty.

Eliminating the risk of ruin, and maintaining as much exp as you can are crucial. Go in too soon with few maps, you may come up and find it hard to lvl. While someone who gained lvls outside of maps, goes in with plenty, and maintains not being punished for being overleveled will prevail.

In theory this sounds nice and all but you dont consider the incredible low drop rate from maps. If you start to play maps as soon as you get them (you should obviously be 66+) the chance of getting multiple new maps out of the results of just this one map are way higher then the chance of map drops in the time you farm to 70+.

If you would consider it just from a risk vs. reward point of view even leveling would be faster on average. The chances of getting to 70 outside of maps without more then one additional map drop or none at all are quite significant while the chances that you never need to return to non-map content are not that much lower compared to starting with one extra map after farming till 70.

Even if you could get a little bit of XP advantage (on average since that is the only thing that matters) by staying in docks till 70, you have to consider if buying maps would not be smarter if you try to minmax your XP.

I was more referring to the new league. Maybe a week ago.

And future ladder races. Risk of ruin can destroy your exp return.
got 1 map total....level 68 now finished merciless at 66 think the one map i have dropped when i was 62?? no clue. drop rates a serious joke if this is 'endgame'
Item Quality equip increase map drobs. At last it feels so for me :).
With 200+ Quality equip I get every 2 to 3 Dock run a map. Sometimes even two.

It's been changed a while ago so IIQ no longer influences map drop rates, unless its been reverted back I'd say its just RNG playing tricks with you.

Does quantity improve map drop rates? I do maps with ~35% quantity/quality and I've been chiseling and alchemising up every 67 and 68 map I get hoping to break into the 70+ maps but no dice. At least I have a lot of 66's

Yes quantity on maps increases drop rates but not quanity from gear or the quantity bonus from grouping. With your low level ones though try just running magic maps and rolling maze on indoor maps and larger area/larger pack size on outdoor maps. Should should get you up to level 69 maps pretty cheaply & easily if you have a decent pool of 66's - and then start alch/chaosing the ones of 70 or higher. Those stats on magic maps are preferable to quantity. On higher level maps when you alch/chaos them you want those mods + decent quantity.
Buy some maps.

Because POE is a very deep game.

Running Docks is certainly deeper and more complicated than Doing Act 3 inferno all day. I'm sure.
