In-game Voice Chat Functionality.

Voice chat is one of thoese hit and miss things. Because the of what type of game Path of Exile is most people would play with their friends thus would likely have skype, teamspeak or vent to talk to them. But incase you play with strangers you might want to communicate to them through voice chat because its easier then typing but you always got the chance you could run in to a mic spamming troll. In all honesty voice chat wouldnt be a bad addition but it isn't in anyway necessary.

I really enjoy voice chat functionality it really gives you and your friends a way to play together without having to stop bashing your way through enemies and type out mispelled sentences lol. Many of the games I play frequently have this feature and if not I usually will use ventrilo or teamspeak.

Being a free to play game, I think there's a very good chance for this game to have a HUGE playerbase which only serves to increase the chances that most people will actually not be playing with friends all the time - quite the contrary.

And, as stated before, third party programs are only viable if you're playing exclusively with friends/clanmates that all have access to it beforehand.

Furthermore, to get around mic spamming, you simply have everyone muted by default with the option for anyone to mute and unmute other people for themselves on a personal level - just like you see in many FPS games. The only difference is that most of those games don't keep everyone muted by default. Probably because it's a lot of people to manage individually muting and unmuting. But in a game like this, you'll probably never be playing with more than 4-8 people at once.

That is why we need Player ID and character name, so you can choose [Ignore Player]. This way they can't join in your games. If you report someone like this then GGG could delete their account if the abuse continues, I think there should be options like "Ignore Local" when you are in party/team chat, you'll always have the little B*tches that are in town spamming about having things you can easily go out and find, voice chat should be party only when in town, muting specified players should be an option! The solutions are pretty easy the slaughter is the hard part, I was reading Dot Hack Al Buster and it brought up something I think makes sense: when in a church there shouldn't be any private chat because if one is omnipotent like "God" there are no secrets from him.

That being said a church (if implemented) should be player or party instanced PVP free zone.

I'd like to give this topic its proper venue for consideration, and was wondering if Chris wouldn't mind hosting a poll of whether people would embrace a voice chat system being implemented into PoE at some point. Better yet, let us know whether this is even within the scope of consideration for GGG to implement.

I've gone into detail on my thoughts it here on page 9: http://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/391/page/9#p21272

However, it's somewhat of a separate topic from the regular chat channel discussion and that thread already has so much clutter so I thought I'd post this as a suggestion.

One person did oppose it because they thought people would stray away or use a third party program, such as Ventrillo or TeamSpeak. To that I'd say it'd be an optional alternative to typed chat. I also think clans and friends would kindly welcome an official voice chat if it were properly tested and functioned well.

Any thoughts or concerns on the matter? Please, feel free to share yours.

World of Warcraft has an in-game voice chat option and barely anybody uses it. Instead, people use Ventrilo and Teamspeak.

And honestly, I'm not sure why not many people use it. The only thing I can think of is the voice chat in WoW doesn't have as many options as Vent and TS. For instance, the voice chat channel that you create in WoW isn't permanent in the same way a Vent server is.
Gestas (Templar), Hardcore league.
With the improvements made to VOIP, a quality in game voice chant should definitely be an option. Every game from here on out should be providing this option, even if it is an add-on option to the game.
I don't understand what for to game the built in vocal chat if in this game there will be a system of guilds the majority will have the - guild vocal chat, plus additional loading on the server.
I play MMO many years, and still in one game didn't see a normal vocal chat.
