Two-handed sword shadow dealing physical and crit I'm thinking of maybe taking unwavering stance and Iron reflexes to turn it into a nice pvp build.
My build, though many have failed to survive. That's the true path of an exile.
Once I know more about the game, I'll be more comfortable toying with my own build, but for now I'm using Kripp's wand build, because I like buffing my buds and plan on wrecking maps with them. When those maps finally drop that is. :P
RIP count: sideways 8
What I have done sofar is checking out peoples passive skill builds on the forums to get inspired. Then as I lvl I tend to stray away from the build I originally intended and that was posted.

My first two OB characters where groundslam marauders( one dead on Piety, the other still alive in merci). GS marauder is a straightforward build but in the end my GS build became my own. Haven't seen anyone post my exact version. Not saying mine is better ofc just that I tailored it to suit me and what I thought was good.

Now my third toon a HC 63 witch summoner I started out making a copy of VoidMoons arc summoner build. A fairly popular thread in the witch forum.
But at around lvl 50 I started making it into a new build, double totem which didn't work. Respec 12 points and now it's a double curse summoner that will probably grab eldritch battery. It's very different from VoidMoons arc summoner and the skill gem selections obviously completely changed as well.

Long post but just think its a good example how build diversity in PoE works. You really don't have anything set in stone. I doubt even down the years people will build certain popular builds exactly the same. There are always small tweaks you need to make to suit your personal style and preferences.

In short, GGG did an awsome job! :)

i use other builds as an examples. trying to build/moderate other builds by my own.
i got my beta key from Icoblablubb - vielen danke !!!

the first (and only?) 6 linked blue sox on magic armor in beta :P
GGG (and before them, Blizzard North) have made a game system that is rich and expansive and I choose to experience them organically. I roll so legit that I have never even looked at the list of uniques and would never set foot in the builds forum. The only exception to any of this is that I watched the Build of the Week series when I was in Closed Beta.

It is not the destination but the journey itself that transforms us and shows us who we truly are.

This is pretty much the best way to experience a new game. Have fond memories of gaming before internet. You pretty much always explored game mechanics on your own, maybe the occasional gaming magazine had some tips. This way you always got the full satisfaction from beating a game since you did it all by yourself. Also everything in the game was a surprise. You had no videos and whatnot to see before hand.

But nowdays we are so used to looking things up instantly. Hard not to. Not saying things where better before though. The way we interract with the world today is amazing. And yes I sound like an old geezer, which I guess I am, lol.

Someone who gets it!! Awesome!!

Every time I see one of those "OMGLOL I'm new whats the OP build right now FTW!!11!!", it reminds me of a comic I saw on the pages of a gaming magazine from the pen-and-paper Dungeons and Dragons era: there is a crate with a slot in the front and the crate is labeled "Contents: one minotaur. Insert sword here for 5,833 XP." If you're not playing the game for pleasure but rather to let someone else make the decisions and you're just along for the ride, what's the point? Ultimately, these games are about tactics. . .you could teach a monkey to use a mouse and they could excel at ARPG games, really. If you're not making your own builds and your own choices, it's just ego masturbation, IMO.
I like being efficient and/or builds that are fun to play so I usually go to forums and pick a build that looks fun. I don't like to try something and then realize it was a waste of time (from my view). My current 1h axe + shield build is taken from a thread in the Marauder forum, though I've made some adjustments to it myself now that I'm more comfortable with the game (level 53 atm).

I'm not really into figuring out my own builds. Why waste time thinking about a good build when somebody has already done it and posted it on the interwebs? ;D (I do realize some people just enjoy playing their own builds and that last sentence is not to be taken too seriously)

Also, lol at you Ladderjack (if you really meant what you wrote). :D I play these games for pleasure, yet I use builds that other people have come up with. I fail to see how those things would be mutually exclusive.
