Your build or cookie cutter

Also, lol at you Ladderjack (if you really meant what you wrote). :D I play these games for pleasure, yet I use builds that other people have come up with. I fail to see how those things would be mutually exclusive.

I guess I'm not being fair. I assume that everyone has the ability to look at a game system and determine what a good strategy would be. . .but apparently, not everyone is smart enough to do that.

If you're happy letting other people think for you, go for it.

Mine was a hybrid of 2 popular builds that I changed a bit to suit my goal. I'd say 1/3 was made up while playing while I had a rough idea of the skeleton talents so I didn't regret any major decisions. Any little tweaks I need to do now with respeccing won't be too costly.

Eh... I'm not really sure if there is any use responding to you after that personal insult but I'm going to try.

Let's say that I like to play football. Now, does it make me stupid if I try to learn from great footballers instead of trying to come up with all the tricks by myself? In other words, why should I try to re-invent the wheel when instead I can just use the wheel that other people have come up with and then modify it to suit my own needs?

I can understand that some people get enjoyment from the build planning phase. I'm not one of those people. I just like to play the game with a good character. You should try to understand that.

PS. There forums really need a "report" button.
Definitely my own build. Why use some other retards build?
You really haven't begun to enjoy the game until you've built a character for yourself. I suggest looking at other builds similar to what you want, and then going for it.

There's nothing wrong with taking an already planned out build that isn't yours, if you're new then I highly suggest it. Once you get a feel of how the game works you'll be ready to experiment for yourself.
Main is my own build. Sharing my experiences.

Made another Char out of my own thoughts, crosschecked with a build in forum got some good ideas from it and changed accordingly.

Trying a build atm which is made by someone else, but I changed some little things according to what I got to work with of course.

I find it interesting to look at builds made by other players, since they give me some ideas which I use in other builds or take into my build to see if it's worth it.
I want a Ninja armor for my shadow.

I like Turtles.
After copying shadow builds off Invalesco that all failed (my fault for mindlessly doing that) I started to build my own "uncoventional" characters. It's more satisfying to do it yourself but hey, different strokes for different folks. My rauder is doing well on act 3 cruel (level 49).
My very first build in the game (when I was just learning about it back in August of 2012) was a cookie cutter Marauder - this was basically just to learn the core mechanics (got him to level 40 or so).

Then I had a dual-totem spork witch just for the lulz.(in closed beta)

Then I rerolled and made my own build - it's much more rewarding. (in open beta)
"I see now that the circumstances of one's birth are irrelevant; it's what you do with the gift of life that determines who you are." - Mewtwo
My main is my build that I have been tinkering with since cb. But I do have a cookie cutter marauder that I built because I got some pieces cheap or found, and my main is much further than my friends so I started an alt so I could game with them.

My first build was using one of his guides and it failed too...
