PRNG, you fucking bastard!

isnt vorici 'the middle ground" i mean he gauantees it at about 50% premium over the odds.
Git R Dun!
You just made a dumb decision, Mr. Keys. First of all, if you want to 5L an item by old-school fusing it, you better have a 6-socket to do it. Second, if you don't want to 6-socket if first, you better use Vorici recipe (150 fusings for 5L). Don't blame RNG for your bad decisions.
GGG banning all political discussion shortly after getting acquired by China is a weird coincidence.
It wasn't RNG that screwed you over in this instance, John; it was your decision making.

As others have said, do the math and calculate the costs involved (go straight for Vorici for 5 guaranteed 5 sockets and 5 links, get 6 sockets and set aside a small number of fusings to gamble for a 5 link and maybe get lucky with a 6 link etc.)
really hard to pity you on this one.

as usual, the responses in this thread divide into 2 primary groups:

1) "lol you suck trolololo l2p or leave dis game"
2) "you knew it was a dumb decision and you knew gambling is gambling, why didn't you work-around it?"

to group (1) I say, thanks guys. I knew I could always count on your encouraging posts in hard times.

and to group (2) - which includes more serious folks like Morbo and Stryker - that's exactly the point:

playing while knowing RNG is there lurking, just waiting for a chance to fuck with you, isn't a good thing.

anything from Morbo's suggestion to gamble with small amounts at a time, all the Vorici stuff (even if I had the 4-times-as-many-Fusings he wanted) and all the way up to just outright trading for the item you wanted and the sockets/links you wanted on it - these are work-arounds.
work-arounds, from Casino-high-roller-like tactics of "minimizing the risks", then jumping straight into "why did you even enter the Casino in the first place, when the shop right next to it has a sale?".

classifying any of it as "crafting" is just lying to yourself. especially if PoE isn't your first-ever game in this genre, and you know what real crafting can and does looks like.

here's a hint:

I think an easy way to make things better for crafting, would be to add a system where with each jeweller's/fuse you use on an item, the chances of getting 6s/6l augments, that way using one and not getting the desired result wouldn't be a 100% loss, and you could even sell items with a higher fuse/jewel investments for a higher price even if they aren't fully socketed or linked

a suggestion that's probably as old as this game is.
one of many.
but GGG don't want crafting. they want Casino with a side of just buying what you need. be it from Vorici or poe.trade.
always did.
and the bottom line? the bottom line is that's what frustrates me even more, than the one Exalted and 40 Jewellers I blew to the wind.

I'm no longer too happy when I socket/fuse in few, or just drop a 6-link like very recently.
I'm no longer too sad, when blowing 1/3 of my total amount of high orbs and getting nothing.
both cases, are just "PRNG, you fucking. bastard!". and you can bet if the fucking dice-roll code GGG made could speak, he'd say "lel got you again", in BMBI's voice, then display an Arnold picture.

You gambled when the odds were highly against you and you expectedly lost. You made a dumb decision you can only blame yourself for. Deal with it.

As Xav said, you knew the odds were stacked against you and you went with it anyway.

I don't see the fusing system changing anytime soon after the inclusion of FM, you have a way to craft a 5/6L for a fixed price with about the same investment as an average amount it would take you to 5/6L the item.
If you want to try and link it the old way you have to be prepared to be on the bad side of RNG.

And RNG is what the game revolves around, starting from maps / drops and even your survival (monster crits, your block/dodge/evasion and your crits, etc).
I don't see what the big deal is since you can as a solo player gather the said currency in 10-15 days to 5L it at vorici if you convert all your jews into fuses. I have had maps which gave me up to 5 fuses per run when you count in 6S and jewelers so it's not that hard really.

And that is if you play casually 2-3 hours per day.

I am trying to deal with it.
but since you are a proud member of "group (1)", and as such can't be bothered to read anything longer than a couple lines - let me just ask you this:

WHY exactly is using orbs for their intended purpose - especially Fus/Jewel - such a bad decision? does it have to be a bad decision? is it so fucking impossible for this game to have real crafting, like people have been suggesting from before you, me, and most of the people reading this were even playing Path Of Exile?

riddle me this, Xav.
or at least think about it, before spewing the usual bullcrap.

I was in your camp (check my early post history). I deleted all my chars and gave away all my stuff, hating this trade simulator. I argued on forum, crying that game should be about killing stuff, getting loot and currency, getting stronger and better, and not trading. At least I declared, tradings should not be so god damn powerful compared to killing stuff.

Then a player qouted from the "Game Overview": "It is designed around a strong barter-based online item economy"

At that point I lost all my arguments. This is a trading game! So I stopped playing. When Rampage started I could not keep my hands away. This time, however, I gave trading a try. Ohhh my what a change. 5ex within a week. 6L within 3 weeks. Trading/buying multi exalt uniques within a month.

I'm not a rich super trader, but trading changes the game. Alot.
A kid playing computer games can never be — and never has been — hardcore.
5 Link from vorici costs 150 fusing

You used 40. Then have the gall to complain when it doesn't work out for you ?

150 Fusings on standard would cost you 3.75ex.

So not getting a 5 Link in 1 exalt is not justifiable for a tantrum or rant.
