Combat too simple

Does anyone else think that the combat is a little bit to simple?
That you only need to push like three buttons.
I don't mean that the game is easy, it's hard in many other ways..
But it seems like the most effective way is to run a bunch of auras,
and use one main skill, and maybe some single target skill in offhand for bosses, and just spam. I would like to see more utility skills, and the promotion of combining skills for greater effect. Maybe being able to have 3-different link setups on the chest piece, that can be used at the same time. Still being limited by gear and the passive three. Would that really be overpowered?

gameplay is very simple once you reach a certain level and gear mark.

spam a single aoe until mobs die while having your hands on the flask. honestly, flask reflexes is more skillful than what youre doing for 98% of the poe playing experience.

I count Flasks to skills in this game.

You customize them and use them apropriately just like skills.

I agree, but it's not so exciting and fun pushing flasks & curses. Forgot to mention that i also want the combat to be more fun not just harder, and i think it would be if people could use more skill-gems/combine skills.

The thing is, you can play with multiple skills etc, but it will always be more efficient and faster to focus all you resources on 1 or 2 skills. And I don't know how one would go about changing that.

This game is about planning, not playing. Once you planned good tree and got good gear rest is relatively easy, you just spam your main skill and go.

And this main skill is usually the only skill, as developers here are quite obsessed with "specialization". It means, that if you want anything to work, you have to focus entirely on it. It makes "one-button-wonders" the most effective builds here.

It's quite contrary to, for example RoS, which seems to be build quite reverse and be about playing, not planning, so you usually have no problem with gear acquisition and don't need to plan your build so much, but to be effective you have to use all available skills, what makes gameplay much more skill based.
Anticipation slowly dissipates...

So long as desnync is a problem, the skill bar will remain low.
No. Calm down. Learn to enjoy losing.
I'm with tmaciak on this. Having played both extensively now, it's clear that PoE is essentially a stand and deliver experience (which is fine). RoS on the other hand is much more dynamic at higher greater rift levels, you really have to practise and perfect your movement, crowd control and situational awareness (sentry DH's notwithstanding).

The closest to this I've seen in PoE is the uber atziri fight, which does require a kabuki dance (which I like in concept), but the vast majority of content I don't think does, at least in my experience.

Then again, PoE is largely an exercise in excel and a supermarket shopping list, with an arpg minigame attached...is that unfair?

Yes, gameplay in POE is rather primitive, it is all about planning and grinding. POE gameplay resembles Diablo II, in a bad way.

A very constrained camera view, overspecialised one-trick-pony builds, no crowd control skills except freezing taken right from D2, no micromanagement required except for flasks and maybe few boss fights. Nothing like monsters in other games having 4-5 skills some of which you have to manually avoid - 4-5 skills in POE is for boss monsters. Imagine something like luminous arena from Torchlight II in POE as a part of the main quest.
