How did you find out about PoE?
I found out because I used to post on the D3 forums and read others posts and last summer with the patches not fixing the loot drop system and the complete fiasco of the auction houses I found a reply suggesting I give Path of Exile a try.
That was the best suggestion I've ever gotten and I tryed the open play weekend. I was hooked and immediately joined the POE forums so I could keep up to date on POE's development. Then one day I received an email with a beta key. I signed in and played POE. The play style took me a week to get used to but this is by far IMHO the best ARPG dungeon crawler I've played since D2 and TQIM (Titen's Quest Immortal Throne) and the excellent mod Lilith The Will of Demon : Battles of Jalavia. I've played the Baldur's Gate and Neverwinter Nights series too but the atmosphere and pace of POE is more to my liking. "You've got to grind, grind, grind at that grindstone..."
Necessity may be the mother of invention, but poor QoP in PoE is the father of frustration. The perfect solution to fix Trade Chat: www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/2247070 |

I watched it streamed on Twitch TV. Quickly grasped the sheer magnitude of what this game could be then donated some money to GGG...Good job folks.

My first contact with PoE was in TotalBiscuit's first video - aaages ago. I remember thinking "holy crap, Diablo II in HD":D Then I saw the skill tree and my mind was blown. FFX is the best and most important game of my life and after I saw PoE tree I knew I had to try it out. I signed up for closed beta but never got invited until finally after first open beta weekend it was possible to buy supporter packs. I fell in love with PoE. I bought a few standard supporter packs since then and got a few of my friends to play the game. It was kinda easy after they were disappointed with THAT OTHER HACK'N SLASH (coughDiabloIIIcough;). I really wish I could afford Diamond pack - you guys deserve all the money. Thanks for this game and pls keep up the good work and keep the content coming. I'll support you whenever I can and I'm planning on playing PoE for years to come. You should call D3 team and offer them lessons in game design:D

People were posting on the d3 forums about it. so i visited. was like. i can dig it. Waited for my key. and about 4 months later i came back and was invited. so i downloaded the client n geeked out on it.
Im not big on keeping up to date with things. So when i heard d3 was being released i was like fuck yeah. but now im like POE fuck yeah, this is what d3 should have been more like. N well ive been an avid d1 n d2 player since they were released. So when i got on this i was like aww yeaah. d3 is pretty much still in beta imo.. GAmes already better than when it was released anyway, items are still a bit boring to me.. But noiw POE. still in closed beta and the itemisation imo is an aspect that makes this game already better. i pretty much upgraded to gold at the snap of my fingers and withen not long of first playing the game. Smoother than Smooth. Last edited by Moist#6523 on Jan 8, 2013, 8:44:06 PM

I have never played Diablo before in my entire life, I'm still quite young and I think I wasn't a gamer yet when Diablo 1 & 2 were popular. I wanted to try Diablo out because I loved Baldur's Gate and Dungeon Siege, since my laptop can't handle Diablo 3 and I wasn't much of a fan of the Diablo 1 & 2 graphics (I know, I know, the graphics of the game doesn't do it justice and that it's all about the gameplay).
I went on to Google, searched for Diablo 3 alternatives and Path of Exile was one of the listed games, it really caught my interest since it's not only because it is free at launch but is also an MMO (I loved MMORPGs back when I haven't played MOBA games). I really don't spend money on games that much, that's why I ended up playing a lot of MMORPGs back then since you don't have to pay for most of them. But I ended up supporting the game developers anyway, sadly I could only afford as much as a Bronze Suppporter but I'm sure it will help them build this game into a great one. |

I found out from Kripparrian's youtube channel and started watching him stream the game after I stopped playing D3. It didn't take long for me to pay the $10 for a beta key, and not long after that to upgrade to silver. :)

I heard the name a while ago. But it was only in the last couple of days that I actually found out about the game (on Diablo 3 forums).

Had seen someone post a picture of Skilldrassil in a discussion about D3 (and nothing else, so while I found it interesting it didn't catch my eye), and I remember somehow managing to miss seeing the different skill nodes beyond the basic stuff like the +10 stuff or the % increases to attack speed or spell damage. I distinctly remember wondering if choices were to diluted by being spread out among so many nodes.
This was in...April, maybe May? Having not really been into this type of game at the time (I was a console gamer till college and even then it was a slow shift to being a primarily PC gamer), and just having tried out D3 (was one of those "lucky" enough to "test" the first 13 levels of the game via the beta test), I didn't give this game much thought. Fast forward a couple months (my account was created in July, but I don't remember if it was that month or August when I picked up a supporter pack and I started playing) and I saw a video that talked about the various pros and cons of D3, TL2, and PoE. It was the first time I had actually seen the game in action, and the atmosphere and aesthetic of the game totally drew me in. Last edited by Berethos08#6073 on Jan 9, 2013, 1:46:12 AM

Found out about the game from livestreams and the Diablo 3 forums, a few of my friends saying good things about this game and decided to try it out after being utterly bored/burned out of D3 and how easy the game has became, haven't looked back so far, hilarious that I feel like this is more the true successor to D2 then the game that D3 was supposed to be, very excited with this game. :)
