1.3 ✮ The Crit DoT Chin Sol build ✮ Puncture Trap / Ice Shot (Build of the Week S3E3)

tooltip on iceshot says 53% chance to pierce with 53% from gem only, it doesn't seem to account passive pierce to iceshot tooltip. Any thoughts on that?
I don't see how you have enough strength for this, at all. How do you do it?

link1313,

Yeah with that ring it wouldn't work. I don't really intend on getting them, broke as a joke currently, probably just going rare jewelry. I just figuring running around with 5 PC (if you get Alria and the Shadow tree one) you would crit much more often and get those big hits on traps.

I just watch the first budget build Atziri run and on the first split he had to drop like 6 or so traps to take it out. The next one was 2 traps and it was insta-dead due to 1-2 crits. The crit is where its at. Tooltip DPS is great and all but its not a real representation of true DPS.

With Assassin's Mark there is no way to generate PC's unless you kill something so its useless on longer boss fights such as Atziri/Uber. This was something Foxtactic's was discussing on his stream with his "Pledge of Arc" build where he is using Assassin's Mark, and said he would probably go for PCoC once he gets a 6 link, and drop Assassin's Mark altogether and go Conductivity instead. This was a last week he was talking about it on his stream, not sure if he has changed his mind on it though.

At any rate I feel the same process could work here. Assassin's Mark is great for trash not so much for big bosses. Though from what I have seen most bosses don't last long anyway. Just a thought I figured I would pass along.

I may change my mind...for the budget build at least ; theoretically PCoC could be better than Added Fire in boss situations where you likely won't shock them anyway and you want to clear the mobs then drop crit traps on the boss.

but i WOULD keep assasin's mark , you don't want to lose out on a "more" multiplier, which is the whole reason chin sol is ridiculous with puncture trap in the first place.

Yeah I spaced the More damage detail, very good point.

The thing with PCoC gem is that you still need to crit multiple times to build up maximum Power charges. This means that if we are firing at 2APS with this build, it'd take around 10-15 attacks just to gain 4-5 power charges (5 or 7 seconds).

And since most of the tougher map bosses have a "cooldown" before they spawn (Dominus, Vaal), the Power charges that you built up would have expired already once they pop up. So you'd have to waste time during the boss fight trying to crit and build up Power charges, either on trash mobs (if there's any around) or on the boss themselves. So Power charges really only help during the mob-clearing portion when you're using Ice Shot, which is already pretty simple.

Great build, my only problem with it is ele reflect. I one shotted myself 3 times today and my ice shot is only 11k. But when you shoot in pack of reflect golems at point blank range with crit curse on them there's not much else that can happen :).

My tree is a little bit different but still cruising through everything :).

Spoiler

I need to swap that doryani belt for physical one though.

Swap out Added Fire for Life Leech gem. If you already have 75% all resists, it'll make your life a lot easier in reflect situations. The loss of Added Fire won't impact your clear speed much, as Added Fire is mostly used to reliably Shock, but Herald of Ash already has that covered.

So I just attempted Atziri and it wasn't so bad but I died a few times on vaals - the problem is that my puncture doesn't crit as much as I'd want to so 1 vaal lived and raped me when boosted.
Here's my gear and tree, anything can be improved or the only hope left is to somehow get 2 6L's?

Very impressive build and is very well laid out! Will attempt to do this when a bit more money comes my way!

There's definitely a bit of strategy involved when fighting the dual Vaals. You should aim for a Puncture Trap crit chance of 30%+.

As soon as you enter the Vaal room, throw 3 traps on the bottom location. Then as your traps recharge, finish laying the last 3 on the 2nd Vaal location. Once the bottom Vaal spawns first, your first 3 traps should activate and usually kill it. If not, you have 3 more to throw at him.

If the first Vaal dies immediately, the 2nd Vaal should still have the other 3 traps you threw under him. If those don't kill the 2nd Vaal immediately when it spawns, you should have 1-3 traps that you can still throw. If the 2nd Vaal disappears quickly, remember that when it spawns it will be in turbo mode. Run in tight circles around the Vaal and throw traps. Watch my videos for more clarification :)

Thanks for the feedback rrtson.

Testing a new way to apply curses with Split Arrow - Chain - Curse on Hit - Assassin's Mark. Easier to get the right colors on gear sockets.

Good idea actually :)

Though, since we already have pierce chance from tree, maybe Pierce gem would work better than Chain, since projectiles that pierce can't Chain, and with Pierce gem, you can easily reach 100% pierce. Not to mention the lower mana cost.
