Lvl 77, out of maps, Back to docks? yea right
" I would be interested to understand what map is the best place for grinding? The Docks are simple map with: (1) easy to navigate lay out, (2) large mobs of monsters, (3)relatively safe enemies (bar 1 rare mob, voidbearer with multiple projectiles mod) and (4) easy direct access. Lunaris temple 2 is far more threatening, Kole is very dangerous for melee and deadly for ranged if you get caught. Lunaris Temple 3 has those lovely corridors of death where if you get Tentacle Miscreating magic mobs, you are in for a lot of troubles. I do Lunaris 2 and 3 but I have to be far more careful thank in The Docks. |

I was lucky enough to get 7-8 maps before i started so that gave me a little bit easier time and i managed to accumulate some extras. While the map droprate inside maps is somewhat steady sometimes you get 1 or nothing and sometimes 3 in single map.
Outside its a little bit diffrent story ive counted 56 Dock runs without a single map drop and thats since i started actually counting lol i have no idea how many more were before that. So indeed map droprate outside maps can be an issue especially for someone who would like to solo their way through maps. I ran half of my maps alone and other half with my fiancee and all i can say is that soloing isnt a good idea. Not only you will burn fast through currency in order to get half decent mods but you will come out with less worth so unless RNG gods are in your favor youll have tough time to break even especially if level diffrence between char and map exceeds 10 levels. Also if youre soloing and trying to steadily progress to higher level maps and build your map pool tier by tier youre taking a gamble few bad maps without a drop or lower map level drops and youre already behind. Imho running maps with in group of 3 is a safe bet on steady progression and decent loot. |

" Hey there. Just a few quick points: - simple to navigate, many mobs, relatively safe environment does not always mean better rewards... Docks are lvl 62 - Lunaris 2-3 is actually where I got maps, you might want to read a few posts before. I am running Lunaris alone with my witch, I only tried once with a party a few days ago and somebody pulled Kole from behind us, and he proceeded to swiftly one-shot me without me even knowing what hit me. Alone means less loot, but I can control and pull stuff as I like-->no deaths. Now for Kole. He was pretty harmless for my ranged witch since 70+. I do understand however he might be very dangerous to unprepared melees, with my 1500 HP/2200 ES Kole takes 2-3 shots before I'm dead. So I curse him, totem him and stay off screen with my Ice Spear. If you don't get a lot of HP maybe it's better to avoid him as melee? I didn't see any map dropping from him BTW - Lunaris 3: make sure you have 75%+ Fire for the Tentacled ladies... again, going melee only against them might not be a good idea, As for the "corridors of death", I love them, always working to my advantage. I lock them up with the Freeze Pulse/LMP totem and maybe 2-3 zombies, Frostbite the pack of mobs, and proceed to annihilate them in seconds. Doing Lunaris a few times will help a lot, you will know what to expect... From my understanding, melee-only in PoE is not really viable at high levels. So you might need some ranged skills, totems and summons sometimes? I don't like these much myself, I wanted to play a caster-only DPS, no summons at all, but it proved to be not viable. I hope the devs will try to accommodate these play-styles too in the future and buff them so they can compete with totems&summons builds. placeholder for creative sig Last edited by Undon3#5633 on Feb 11, 2013, 8:59:01 AM

" If you find the game that boring then changing the map drop rates, or whatever, won't change anything. |
![]() |
" It will if those map drops provide content that is not boring, which is the point..... |
![]() |
" Higher level content, still the same game. You'll get a few hours more enjoyment at most. |

Still the same game yes, but not static areas I've done for 20 levels in a row.

" Running maps provide a better chance at good items and help with levelling, which is a priority when you're 75+ and you get basically no XP from "normal" areas... while still the same game, at least there's a chance for good rewards. placeholder for creative sig

Can you grind to lvl 100 in a3 merci right now as it stands?
Thats my question. Invasion - No Sacrifice No Glory

Technically. Yes.
Although PoE would be nearing the end of its 10 year run by that time. To put it into perspective how much exp is need to go from 99-100. You would need to run I believe around 650 lvl 75 maps. |
