The rationale is not having overlevel jerks farming stupidly, this avoid bots.
The fact is loot start diminishing in quality when your 4 lvl above intended lvl, a way to push you forward.
They probably also think this will push people to group since loot increase 30% per people in the group.
I hate farmers, but well, thats a way of gaming ain t it, exactly as powerleveling and vaacum cleaning, or ALTF4ers.

Pushing people to group isn't a bad thing and personally I think this is an awesome Idea. How many games are their that majority of players just want to farm the game for loot and then brag about it..."dude .. check it out .. i just farmed this solo~!" ..

and....................!??

I understand the OP's point, up to a point but, the 30% DR/mob life/dmg increase per person is defintely nice switch.. Now when you can farm far better loot and more of it in a grp and say 'WE did this~!" is true braging rights IMO .. !

I am in the same exact situation as the OP. In fact I just uninstalled the game. I built 2 characters that got to almost level 50 and couldn't progress farther because my gear absolutely sucks and the loot is GARBAGE. Nothing decent ever drops in this game.
I tried farming with both characters for a while and then just gave up.
There is no progression in this game because all you do is get weaker because monsters get stronger disproportionately to the quality of loot and skill tree.
Playing the game felt like a waste of time after a while when you get close to level 50 and nothing but 2 socket items drop and the concept of re-forging/re-coloring them is completely retarded, no to mention that those orbs hardly ever drop as well and you need 40 of them to get a decent combo.
All you get from rewards is the same stupid useless gems.
I wonder who at GGG thought this is FUN.

This game will have the same fate as Diablo 3. Players will rush to play for a while and then realize the have to run the same areas over and over again for 50 hours to get a couple of decent items to drop.
Good luck, GGG!

So i reached a point in the game where my character was ineffective. Ok fine, i'll go back and fight monsters a few levels lower than me, farm some orbs of regret and maybe get some decent loot I can trade...

Nope, the game severly limits items you get from creatures several levels lower than you.

So now i'm just stuck... can't push forward... can't go backwards either.

I call BS.

You don't get punished much loot wise by going a "few levels" back - utter BS. (unless a few means 10 in your language)

TLDR if players can't prosper with their first character they will get fed up and leave.

In some cases that's a good thing.
Nothing to see here.

Pretty much at the same point with my first character, except I really don't want to make another one because I didn't really have very many interesting skill gems drop that seemed like I could make a build around. Got quite a collection of Double strikes and cleave gems, but nothing I would bother making a character to use...I feel this is a really lame way to limit the game...especially in a 'beta' phase.

I figured since I was getting one-shotted by more and more stuff in act 2 cruel that I would need better gear so I went back to act 1 cruel to farm hillock, the ledge and merv. After about 3 days of that I don't really have anything to show for it other than a unique bow (I don't use bows). The gear that does drop is far too weak and the few useful mods on items seem to have really small ranges. I tried doing some scavenging to get some vendor orbs and then some crafting but I didn't really get anything that I would call an 'improvement', again, all the resulting mod ranges were far to insignificant to make a difference in my survivability.

I'm getting killed by falling rocks in 1 shot in vaal's chamber with around 400 life and 300 ES and the best I can get in the way of life mods is between 20-30 and ES is still around like 10-30.

I'm really at a loss how I am suppose to solo that boss when I can't even find gear with mods to survive 1 hit.

This game is starting to feel like Diablo 3...Stuck in act1 inferno trying to climb the Mount Everest gear check of act 2 inferno. I dunno...maybe the solo difficulty is just so poorly scaled that this is only a problem for non-group players, but if GGG's intent is to force players into group play by making it such a mindless face roll compared to solo play I don't think this game is going to last very long...
The problem is not that you lack gear but that you made a build that doesn't work.
Nothing to see here.
Just wanted to revisit this really fast now that i've had a bit of sleep and gotten over the fact that my character is sorta gimped in the current iteration of the game...

It's a beta.

I guess what got my goat is these issues have existed before and been the outright downfall of other games in recent memory.

Just some quick suggestions if I may:

Make rare and unique gems and items no drop, the really cool ones that set you apart from other players. It's the only way to truly add purpose to grinding on your own character(s). By making these drops timer oriented (you can only get 1 super rare unique drop per account per week after which the oddds of getting another is greatly diminished) you add a bit of sanity to the grind, and prevent power players from breaking the game and having to tune things for such a massive range of player power. When players are able to trade 100% for power, the best of the best will be those who scam and steal, who don't play the game but exploit it and other players. Make drops for playing the ultimate form of progression, it's the only way to save the genre, it also prevents players from being able to sidestep the game and progress in a pure trading environment which is a horrible one. See diablo 3's auction house, the trade channel isn't a far step away from this currently.

Instead of forcing tanky builds on players, create some alternative systems that promote tanky builds without destroying the viability of mid ranged damage builds. How about a gems that improves loot %'s based on your armor? Or your current HP? Could be interesting...

Anyway, sorry for the whiny post, they accomplish nothing. This is a fine game with lots of potential, just gonna take a little more work and it is beta after all...

This is strange OP.

I had trouble with early cruel so I went back and farmed Act 3 normal in the Piety temple and I found plenty of orbs and blues to vendor, and some rares I sold.

How much farming did you do before determining it wasn't any good?

I think the orb nerf to lower level content is minor, 25% right (I may be wrong)? That's not a massive amount, you can even bring along items to increase your chances on the easier content.

The weird thing is the fact i think OP, as you seem to think too, and its kind are a bunch of faggot and i think GGG idea is awesome and could be harsher, even if i think it need tweaks.
I wonder how people wine of boredoom in softcore. Softcore is mean to be boredooming. Want to be awake go permadeath (so called hardcore (which is not)) then you ll have bangs for the bucks.
