How is the end game in PoE?
I am a level 20 Marauder ATM and I am enjoying the game. But i'd like to put 300+ hours into my character like in D3.
Does the game offer that enough endgame? |

" If you like grinding (a ton), then yes, endgame is easily able to offer 300+ hours per character (it takes longer than that to get to level 100). It's much like grinding for Paragon levels. What endgame?
Be more specific. |

" At some point you will be able to crush all content. It is not like in D3 RoS public beta where there is always a difficulty or Greater Rift level that is just about "right" in challenge. Another difference is that endgame content (as in higher level maps and sideboss) is dependant on RNG and trading. The limiting factor is your wealth rather than what your character can handle in combat. PoE is not balanced around the endgame and it is thus not surprising that its endgame is very lackluster. It is balanced around temporary leagues (4 months before, now 3) and that's the main version of the game. I would recommend you to practice a bit in standard for now (which is really a bad version of the game and PoE has no intention to balance it) and then try the temporary 3-months leagues which start in 7 days. Whether or not you like the temporary leagues is important for deciding how you will like PoE overall, it is after all the main focus of this game. This message was delivered by GGG defence force.

" uh no? Limiting factor is the difficulty of maps you can do. If you can constantly do the toughest maps then the alch and go method is extremely cheap and effective. Higher the risk the higher the reward. Temporary leagues have endgame just like normal leagues, mentioning them is silly. People regularly reach maps within a few days. PoE's endgame is robust for an ARPG. You can customize maps and control how much rewards you can get out of them. There is progression and various bosses as you go through maps. You can use anything on maps including chaos, alchs, transmutes and vaal orbs. The other side of endgame is farming bosses just like D2 which offer a huge amount of drops and the best chance for getting uniques. Last edited by kasub#2910 on Aug 13, 2014, 5:20:34 PM

" Sustaining lv77+ maps is designed to on average be impossible. Reason for why it was designed that way is to promote trade. This message was delivered by GGG defence force.

Definitely, especially with the xp-reduction you get in harder difficulties (pseudo-hardcore feature ;)). It's basicly like this: you beat the game 3 times and each time you beat it, you come to the next diffuiculty level; on cruel you loose 5% of your current levels' xp on each death, on merciless you loose 10% of your xp.
When you reach about level 70, you can safely start to do level 66 maps and in those you can find higher difficulty maps, but you'll have to play quite a few of them in order to get your map-pool up and running. By the time you'll reach level 70+ maps (around level 80 in my case), the reduction you'll get from each death will be enough to set you back a couple of hours; in later levels you'll be set back as much as a couple of days or even weeks if you don't play carefully. The maximum level is 100 but only a few have ever reached it afaik; most good players reach about level 90 and most casual players are able to reach level 80. So yeah, if you're willing to put 300+ hours in to the game, i'd say you'll be able to make it quite far :) Last edited by Tom7i#1833 on Aug 13, 2014, 5:31:06 PM

Honestly still waiting for a worthwhile endgame, though this game may truly never get one.

" You can sustain 77+ maps as long as you regularly run lower maps. You don't need to trade at all, especially with the upcoming carto boxes. It's also silly to mention sustaining 77 maps when OP is just talking about starting out in PoE. Sustaining 77+ maps only matters when you're above level 90, before 88 there is still map levels that give full XP. |

" What does endgame even mean? I mean, no game ever really has an end other than the story of it. The rest is just XP grinding and item farming and such things like that, What else is there? |
