Real Money for In-Game Currency, and Microtransactions
Off topic: I think the phrase never look a gift horse in the mouth refers to the horses age - so "back in the day" if a horse was gifted to you, usually meant it was really old.
On topic: everyone hit on this already that 3rd party, selling currency for money is a nono. |

" I've never heard the 'Gift Horse' saying until I moved to South America recently-I guess it's a Latin saying. The meaning of it is-not to care if he's missing one or 2 teeth because it's a free horse. Ya old fashioned saying I guess...Just wanted to clear that up :) *oh ya, old / missing teeth-I guess same thing. Last edited by neonive#4501 on Aug 5, 2014, 7:14:15 PM

" It is not the missing teeth but checking whether or not the horse has bad teeth, which seemed to be a way to get an estimation of the horse's overall condition. |

" Are the two suddenly mutually exclusive? Seems a bit elitist to me. Plenty of people with degrees, myself included, have put in the hard hours shoveling proverbial shit to make ends meet. I don't begrudge your choice to play a F2P game as much as you want, but let's not pretend that being picky about your means of acquiring money is anything more than being picky. That's not a difficult job market -- that's a stubborn attitude. Either way, it's your life. Do what you will. I'll do the same. on topic:

First off, I agree with everything mentioned above, with one exception:
" For reference, I just want to say that I have worked more than my share of shitty jobs in my thirty one years of existence. So, since that's out of the way. I believe you need to look up the definition of elitist; not wanting to do a job, that has shit pay and just sucks overall as a job, doesn't make me an elitist. Picky, yes. Stubborn, maybe. I don't feel I'm a better person than anyone else; all the power to you if you work, wherever, and whatever your job is. I am simply: 1) Not cut out for that type of work for many reasons which there is no need to disclose, and 2) Looking for a career, not another string of dead-end jobs, which may pay some bills temporarily but ends me in the same spot I'm in right now. As for the job market, I didn't want to start a lengthy discussion about how the job market sucks. When someone states the job market sucks, they are (at least I am) normally referring to the fact that there are very few to no jobs in the field that they are qualified. And for the few jobs that there are, there are always more applications than there are openings (at least where i live). I'm not even sure the burger joint is hiring anyone at the moment anyhow. Even if the sole reason for me not flipping burgers was because I feel I'm overqualified, that's not elitist, that's truth. I don't look down on the people who do it, if I didn't go to University, I would probably be management at Walmart or some other company that is destroying North America by now. However, having too much pride to take a job that I'm overqualified for and do not like as a whole for various reasons, doesn't make me an elitist. Possibly a little too prideful, stubborn and maybe even ignorant, but not an elitist. On a side note, I did not know that about the gift horses mouth and age, learn something knew everyday. Thanks again for all the info and banter everyone. Last edited by fates_eye#2783 on Aug 5, 2014, 9:51:33 PM

^. I worked physically, I worked in shop with clothes, gave maths and physics lessons, taken any one-time work I could. Now I'm working according to my degree - engi that is. (well, not THAT much, I could get some better job, but this one will do for the time being). And I'm not living in Canada. I'm living in Europe, and "my currency" to $ ratio is not 1:1. And I could afford to drop some money. So I keep my argument of you being spoiled. No offense, but this is the real problem nowadays - not job market being "bad". Just people who think that when they have got their degree, they're going to work at NASA at day 1. Saying that you haven't read the rules AND posting a new thread, which contains the answer. Eh? No offense, but with that attitude... Uh. Real knowledge is to know the extent of one's ignorance.
Ignorance more frequently begets confidence than does knowledge. | |

This is hilarious how this went from discussing two simple issues, to me being an elitist, to me getting made fun of by elitists, lol. Whatever, you have your opinions and I have mine, this thread can RIP. I will no longer be reading any responses, as they are now all off topic.
Thanks for those who helped, and to those who lecture, save your breath or fingers in this case. I'm no longer dignifying any biased opinions with a retort, so good luck to everyone. |
