Doryani's catalyst

It's "effectively BIS" for Glacial Hammer; there are theoretically better weapons out there but you'd be hard pressed to find an attainable weapon that beats the Catalyst.

this and atziri belt are - combined - pretty much mandatory for casters. these might not provide most dps but the alternative gain is incredible

why?

because 2% leech for a caster is pretty much enough if one plays with AA or Coil or MoM.

this saves one link - so the dmg from catalyst is then further increased by next link

it might change if ggg adds ele leech into the list of 'craftable' mods - but this is unpredictable


molten strike - BiS. the only other contender is Soul Taker. both weapons are not BiS because of damage - but due to leech (MS deals 50% fire dmg that cannot be used to leech with a normal weapon) and no mana use respectively (that frees A LOT of nodes, affixes etc and allows allocating these for a damage).

as a package Catalyst is probably the strongest unique weapon - especially because it is (as an attack weapon) above the mid-point for weapons that seem to be around 220pdps.

and the bang/buck value - the highest in the game right now

I have a molten striker using catalyst and if you think that the 1% ele life leech is enough then you are mistaken­. I have to use the life leech gem. Maybe if someone could work out a high dps crit build with it the 1% life leech would be enough but good luck scaling crit chance with its horrible base crit. Catalyst is definitely NOT BIS for a molten strike build, a mirrored 1 hander would more than double your dps.

i also have a MS character (a crit one with 35%crit - Romiras Banquet says hi). for me that 1% extra life leech from damage that otherwise requires gem to be workable makes a difference

it is not the damage after some point - i already one hit mobs with it - it is about the whole package that is combined into one weapon

one can ofc take mirrored item (that is 150ex+ isnt it?) and it shall beat 5ex (or 1ex in my case) item. but even 100ex weapon doesnt have ele leech (and that ele prolif gem that makes it perfect for Arc/Ball Lightning builds). some are looking at it one dimensionally - 'damage'. but when examined as a whole this is absolutely amazing item

Easy to get? I've gotten more mortal hopes than catalysts. Unless hopes are now considered easy.

and i did not mean 'easy to find' but 'easy to get'. you buy gear in this game, dont you? (hate this trade-centric 'economy simulator' but why not to benefit from it)

Well sure it's easy to buy. Atziri's step are even easier to buy and they're great for many builds. It costs 1 chaos in standard at the moment. Doesn't mean it needs a nerf.

Catalyst won't be as cheap in upcoming leagues, standard benefited a lot from ambush where atziri will be done more than any other league(due to challenges, high cz spawnrate). without removing any flavour simply taking away the castspeed from catalyst would be good enough.

I don't know why everyone is so quick to prescribe a nerf to anything that works so well. I guess it has to do with everyone looking at their favourite build/skill and seeing something like this and get all jello.

So many people with penis envy around these days, wanting to water everything down till there is no flavour left in the game.

99% of people who want things like CoE, Windripper, Shavs, acuity, etc. nerfed, don't have these powerful artifacts and instantly raise the red flag because their game experience isn't top tier.

You know, I get it. All the videos, anecdotes, theory-crafting and general pre-pubescent nerdism - it's like crack to most people that dream of "winning" this game. I can't count how many posts here and on reddit have posters polishing Chris' knob. (Sorry to be so crass GGG) I just don't get the "I love you Chris" garbage. Praising changes to the game before they even see the counterbalance that ultimately, we will have to live with.

Listening to the community is a double edge sword. No one cares about the future of the game, only their own play experience.

Relevant to my earlier post, asking to alter one aspect of a weapon or skill changes more than just the weapon - but its balancing and design that went into it before it was added to the game. All the skills or abilities that were held back so as to not interfere with a particular piece of gear - still won't be incorporated into the game even after a 'nerf' to a powerful unique.

Look how much people QQ over the damn "shop" button on the interface - to the point of being very disrespectful to the game artist and interface designers. If it was my game, and the only way for me to stay afloat was to market and sell MTX, you damn well better believe I would make the "shop" button as accessible as possible.
