Beam Spells

In Diablo 3 the wizard can cast beam spells that look absolutely stunning. I don't understand why Path of Exile doesn't have beam skills as well. Is there a technical reason preventing that? Beam Spells are a natural fit in the world of Wraeclast and If nothing else they would make for some really beautiful promotional screenshots and videos.

Of course, beam spells would not be classified as a 'projectile' and hence would not be benefit from projectile support gems like lmp/gmp or faster projectiles. Instead 'beam' spells would be a category unto there own (category - 'beam'), capable of taking the following 'beam' support gems.

Support gems (credit to Gregoriel who made these support gem suggestions -except the last- in another thread)

Lesser Fracturing
- 20% reduced beam damage
- Beam Fractures into 3 lesser beams on contact
- fractured beams deal 40% reduced damage

Greater Fracturing
- 30% reduced beam damage
- Beam Fractures into 5 lesser beams on contact
- fractured beams deal 65% reduced damage

Pulsing
- 75% increased beam damage
- Beam pulses, dealing either no or increased damage

Seeking
- 20% reduced beam damage
- Beams curve up to 15% seeking the next nearest target

Charging
- 1 second beam delay
- _% increased damage.

Focus
- Makes the beam more powerful if cast continuously from one spot. The increase in damage can happen three times. (Similar to incinerate)
-100% increased single-target damage per stage.
-Non primary targets take no increased damage

That's it. I think those would be way more fun, interesting, and viable than Vaal skill. What do you all think? Would you like to see beam skills in path of exile?

Because theyre OP. If they go through everything theyre too strong and if they hit 1 enemy at a time theyre too weak.

We do have beams btw, freezing pulse, glacial cascade and a few others.

So in other words you are saying: "beam spells are impossible because they would be too OP... I mean too weak... I mean we already have them"... Yes makes perfect sense. :)

Would love to hear GGG's opinion about this. Are beam spells something we can hope to see sometime soon?
+1

I'd like to see beams, as a means of creating something that isn't a projectile... and then creating new different support gem options... because variety is good.

beams could be considered DoT spells, in my belief it might spawn sooner or later as new skill or set of skills.

+1 for beam spells

Also we could have beam totems as well.
Incinerate is kind of a beam like spell but it has a low range, so you have too constantly move backwards while using it, almost preventing you from ever getting a critical or power charge, which sucks imho.
Would be nice to see a gem that increases range for spells and totems as well. If we have one already I am yet to run into one. :P

Beams suggestion:

Ice beam, like in D3 freezes targets on contacts, creates frozen ground under the beam line.

Fire beam, ignites targets on contact, incinerates targets with less than 1/5 life remaining.
Creates burning ground under beam line.

Chaos beam: Poisons targets on hit, targets with 1/5 life remaining blow up and create a poisonous fog and/or desecrated ground or other necrotic effect.

Beams could be made less OP with increased mana drain/charge etc.
If D3 found a way to make them less OP then GGG surely could.
Bump. :)
Bump :) Take note, GGG.

Because this is not Diablo 3.
Real knowledge is to know the extent of one's ignorance.
Ignorance more frequently begets confidence than does knowledge.

We shouldn't have weapons and armor then. No items at all, only gems.
And worst change is putting almost all bosses in new version of maps into fucking small areas, where you can't kite well or dodge stuff. What a terrible idiot invented that I want say to him: dude flick you, seriously flick you very much.
