I am deathly curious about your skill tree. It looks like you have very little Increased Life, which can make things pretty rough, all things considered.
At the top of the forums is a portrait of your character class, plus the name and level. Click it. On that screen, click on the Passive Tree button (around the centre). It'll show your character's Passive tree, and below that is a bar labeled 'Link to this Build'. Some pointers: Using low-tier currency to get a bit of a boost is fine. I regularly blow some Transmutation/Alteration/Augmentations to get an upgrade for an item slot, and Armourer's Scraps and Blacksmith's Whetstones are cheap too (although, as a caster, Whetstones are pointless :P ). It should be no problem getting a stronger body armour than that. The Scholar's Robe is a level 18 item - not particularly impressive! Check the armour/weapon merchant and see if they have a Cabalist Regalia or a Silk Robe for sale. Buy it, slap some Armourer's Scraps on it, and then use Trans/Alt until you get something useful (Resists, Life, and/or Energy Shield mostly). If you get a decent Energy Shield roll, you'll be a bunch tougher than before. If they're not selling, check again when you level up. Merchants change inventory every level. Monsters can also drop a good base item, naturally, but it's a bit of a crapshoot. Your Wand has a +1 Level of Cold Gems modifier on it - you should put Ice Nova or Glacial Cascade in there to make it more powerful. Fireball doesn't benefit, so it's a bit of a waste. On a similar note: Ice Nova isn't the most reliable source of Damage output as you progress in the game. Works really well early on, but doesn't scale terribly well. In general, it's usually far more efficient to focus on a small set of Skills, or even just one or two. Find one you like, and then think of ways to make that better. For example, Fireball and Incinerate benefit a lot from a Multiple Projectiles Support gem. Elemental Penetration Supports are always great options. And, really... Don't expect too much out of a first character. :) Path of Exile can be really hard if you're unfamiliar. Act 3, especially near the end, is filled with powerful monsters and Bosses. Also upgrade your boots.

" And your belt. Dying lots on your first character is not uncommon at all. Dont get frustrated, try rolling a different character to try them out. I find that my gameplay has improved a ton over the 2 years I have been playing mostly by practicing and learning what works for me and what doesn't. ~ Please separate the PoE1 and PoE2 forums.

@vipermagi: Waw... thank you. I'll follow theses indications :).
About Ice nova, i love it because i's a good Circle-AOE skill. Is there a better AOE skill ? I don't like Firestrom 'cause it's random. My skill tree: http://www.pathofexile.com/passive-skill-tree/AAAAAgMABUIHYwj0EVAc3B8CLJwxiDgbO-E9X0GWSRtSU1WuVkpXK20ZeQN-WX_GghCHZYt6kc-VBJeVl_ScLZ6hoqOnK66zr5uvt8Hz37Di9-aB8XY= @Farscape99: Maybe but it's hard to upgrade rarity from magic to rare. |

You are leveling spells for all three elements. Most people specialize in just one to get more oomph.
You need to find a life leech gem and link it to your primary spell ( I presume Fireball). Look for boots with +20% movement speed. They will save your life a lot. I don't see a curse. Pick a curse and use it. If you die too much try Enfeeble-it really softens up the hits. |

I'm not the greatest player, but I can offer some basic tips.
1)You need to work on your defenses. Take more +life% passives. Get the 12% life/mana node near the start of your tree. Then work your way toward the life passives near the big +30 dex node you have taken. Remember: for leveling, life >>> ES. Avoid taking more ES nodes from now on. There's a lot of reasons ES doesn't work well until end game. Focus on getting equipment with life+res, and preferably with armor or evasion instead of energy shield. A Crest of Perandus is an excellent replacement for your shield, it's cheap (you can buy it for 1 chaos orb or less, check POEXYZ) it's got HP, life regen, a ton of block chance and it also should allow you to cap lighting res for when you'll face Dominus. All in all it's one of the best leveling item in the whole game and may easily last you until Merciless difficulty. More in general, you will also need gear with more sockets, preferably linked, to support gem combos. While you should try to use as less currency on items as possible, once you get a *good* piece of gear, don't be scared of using orbs to get three or four linked slots on it. Another thing that will help you immensely is the use of auras and other defensive skills. I recommend using at least the Grace aura for defence purposes, and consider using a Cast When Damage Taken gem+some defensive skills. CWDT+Enduring Cry+Decoy totem+one defensive curse (like enfeeble or temporal chains) is a great combo and will help you stay alive. 2)Looking at your gems, I get the feeling you're not sure what spell you should use, and you're probably not doing much damage at all. You can't really be a jack of all trades in PoE. On normal difficulty it might still work, but later on you'll need to specialize. Choose one spell you like and google a build for it. It will tell you what kind of stats, gems and passive points you need to make it work. Last edited by Poldo6#1424 on Jun 22, 2014, 3:45:43 PM

You have both the Fire Walker and Frost Walker line. Choose either fire or cold as your primary element and use your passive respect points to remove the other. Probably use those points on life.

All this text and nobody mentioned this obvious flaw in your set-up?
Remove fireball from your wand and put in a cold spell. its +1 to cold gems, but only if the spell is placed inside that weapon. Be prepared to fuck up some characters while you get to know the basics and read some guides in the witch sub-forum. Peace, -Boem- Basic pointers for new-comers. Don't underestimate the importance of 75% resistances (chaos resistance can be skipped since it does not appear all that often, but be careful when you encounter it then, all others have to be 75%) A passive tree for end-game should have roughly 200% increased life +- if your life based. The trick is to make a tree where you take "some" damage nodes, while you pass your %life nodes. When you reach your 200%life +- you can start to put additional points in damage if your character is doing ok. Edit : the trick is to not let the enemy's know you are weak. <.o Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes Last edited by Boem#2861 on Jun 22, 2014, 4:55:06 PM
