High Ping Spikes, Please Help!

Greetings,

I have been experiencing high, short ms spikes while playing to the point where it is almost impossible to play. I'm very noobish to the technical side of the internet and networking so all I can provide is this WinMTR report, which I have no idea what is going on. Any help on pointing me in the right direction would be appreciated.

are you on a wireless connection? I ask because your trace is all over the place.

If so, can you try a hard-wired connection, and also if that doesn't work, try a hard wired connection to your modem directly ... bypassing your router. See if it still has issues.

You also might want to try rebooting your modem and router and see if it clears up.
Thank you for your response,

I'm currently connected directly to the modem and have rest the modem. While I did contact my isp provider and gave the tech support the reports the only thing the tech could do is escalate my issue to advance support, which I will have to wait for their response.

Sounds about right. Unfortunately, they're really probably the only ones that can assist you now as it is likely an ISP issue.

Good luck.
Hi, I've been experiencing high latency as well since the most recent patch. I'm starting to notice a trend... users experiencing high ping are from Florida. I'm from Orlando, judging by your report you are from the Tampa area and Manocean, the streamer, is from the East coast of Florida. A couple things that we all have in common is that we get routed to a server in Miami and then to the PoE server in Dallas and we all have Bright House as our ISP.

In my case there is a large jump in latency from Miami -> Dallas. Looking at your report, the same thing in general is happening. I've contacted GGG via email but they said there is nothing they can do and to contact my ISP.

Sadly, I don't have a fix for you since I am still suffering from the unplayable latency myself. But I am planning on contacting Bright House tomorrow about it. Maybe if they get enough complaints about it they will do something.

Yes I noticed that as well and tried explaining that to the first tech I had, he was just trying to establish that I had a good connection to Brighthouse in Tampa which I do. From there the trace goes all over the place, I don't know if Brighthouse has old lines, outsource the service or what ever but it definitely seems to be the problem, unfortunately trying to get an advance support staff from my isp is almost impossible, so this very frustrating.
Seems to be an issue with networklayer.com, getting 70%+ packet loss while getting routed through there, is this the company GGG uses to host the US server?
my ping is usually around 50 and for the passed 24 hours it's been around 150. getting a massive spike regularly every minute or so. also with bright house of tampabay : /

Today I was able to talk with a "tier 3" level support. We went through the usual ping/trace tests to US.login.pathofexile.com, the tech told me that when he tried to connect to said address that he was getting zero packet losses. He then port forwarded me, this did not help. After some more ping tests/resets the tech came to the conclusion that there was nothing wrong on Brighthouse side and that he suggests maybe there is an issue with my modem and GGG. I will have a service tech come out and replace the modem soon™, hopefully this resolves the issue.

jdizzell, your ISP misinformed you about your connection, there are obviously problems with your home router+modem, since you have 65% packet loss. Getting your new modem will most likely fix your issue (or testing the socket and wiring with a field tech instead of having someone from Time Warner Cable/Brighthouse lie to you on the phone).

If they had you move around routers and cabling while they did their test, perhaps your problem was eliminated during that testing.
