Why do ppl take Oak's reward? (40 maximum Life)

Self-found, I take the resist bonus instead (and a fair number of resist% passives) because you don't have access to as much good +resist gear.

But if you can count on having your resists sorted, the HP is far better. 55-60 when you get it, and improves each few levels to over 100 for maps.
Le Toucan Will Return
Life Formula when you helped oak:

(42 +(l12)+(s/2)+x+40)(1+p/100)

when you killed all and took 5% more life with the Skillpoint:

(42 +(l12)+(s/2)+x)(1+(p+5)/100)

with l = level, s = strenght, p = % increased life and x = life on items.

Lets set them equal and solve for x

x = 758-12l+8p-s/2

set in your l,p and s. Is your life on items <x, pick Oak. is it >x, take 5% life.

An example: level 90, 150% life, 130 str ---> x = 813. thats an average of 90 life per item on 9 itemslots. Unlikely when we pick up some uniques.

Another example: lvl 80, 100%, 200 str --> x = 498. 55 average life needed over 9 items to break even. that's possible, but 100% is on the low end.

Seems like, most of the time. oak is still the better solution over a 5% lifenode. When the build does not have easy access to 5% lifenodes in the end, oak is a good choice.

Wonder why people are comparing it at level 90 and 200% hp, when you are getting it at lvl ~30, with maybe 50% hp. It is a HUGE buff to your hp at that time (HC, welp), and this is the main reason I find it better than a point. Not to mention you don't have to fight with annoying Oak : D.

Welp, better than creating new thread, about same crap. Topic is still there, Oak reward is not changed, so there is no problem here :-V.

250-300% thing was the old PoE. I'm yet to see a build having 250% life since 1.2-1.1(?) patch. Even if there is some, that still doesn't make it "most builds". Most caster builds have around 175% life while others around 200-225% at most. Highest I've seen so far was around 225% and that was a simple Ground Slam build.

250% is really hard to get since they nerfed life nodes, maybe if you use Belly, other than that I dont see it happening you're gonna miss a lot of other useful nodes. ;)

If you actually look at that post you quoted, you would see the date that the post occurred happened to be around a few months before patch 1.2. :)

Necros and numbers aside, the reason why it's still the best reward is because it's the only one that's guaranteed to be useful when you're level 85.

Resists and Mana are only useful until you reach a certain point. Cap for resists, and the point where you can use all your skills without having to resort to flasks for mana. Once you get beyond that point, they're useless. How much work it takes to get to that point is also an unknown value (unless you're some weird all-unique build or use a Soul Taker, in which case you know for certain you don't need the respective rewards).

Life on the other hand is always useful. Even if you could gain more life with a skillpoint (or two or more skillpoints if you actually do need to use the other rewards), it's still worthwhile to take the Oak reward and respec into a different reward when you know for certain that it would yield more life.

There is a friend of mine who always chooses to kill them all because of the loot. No one considers the loot. hahaha

Does he also think that the loot is inconsistent? Kappa.
