Why do ppl take Oak's reward? (40 maximum Life)

Again you're ignoring the availability of a 6%+ node.
By the way, I'm glad that you've left that claim (surviving below 160 life) alone :) |

" That may be just me, but... When I am levelling up a character and I am just one point away from a very nice notable/keystone, I will most likely want it right now, so I will eat a regret orb and respec out of something else to get it immediatly. More often than not, I take a single health node for this. (If I have 4200 or 4350 life for one level, who cares?) That was where I was going with the statement above. In the end, I will take the health node again, sure. But it is not that big of a difference between 4200 and 4350 life. Same stuff will kill me, same stuff will not kill me. 3.5 build: https://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/2299519

In ambush, doesn't matter unless you care about dying. The hardcore leagues i always take to +40.

I like the flat max life to make up bad gear I use constantly. :P
I sometimes get the max mana thou. Because I'm rad. Last edited by Nightmare90#4217 on Jun 11, 2014, 9:35:09 AM

" That notable/keystone argument has no place in this discussion. We're talking about a higher life pool and why the +40 life is being taken instead of the passive point. I get what you're saying, and I do that too, but that's just replacing a life bonus from the node(s) to get another form of bonus other than life itself. |

The +40 max life is a multiplicative bonus with your additional percentage life. Percentage life nodes are additive to each other. The more you have of one, the more useful the other one is. You don't want to skimp on either.
" Just like nightmare says, the lower the +life on your gear, the more you get out of the +40 life. As a 99% self found player, I will never have "perfect gear." |

Another thought is when you are using 250% and 300% life multipliers you are talking about end game, and you get the Oak bonus much sooner than that and your life multipliers will be much lower then.
Hardcore players worry about survivability and immediate bonuses would be the way to go. It's all a bit of a moot point because I'd argue just getting 10 extra levels and talking 10 more life nodes as the theoretical "best" way to go. |

Most endgame life builds will have the +40 life either be similiar to a 8% node or actually surpasses a 8% node. It's pretty simple why people take the reward.

The 40 hp as reward doesn´t matter. Oak just challenge my manhood every time with his long stick. This is unacceptable.
What can never be lent or earned?
Somewhat, that devours everyone and everything: A tree that rush. A bird that sings. It eat bones and smite the hardest stones. Masticate every sword. Shatters every shrine. It defeat mighty kings and carry mountains on lightly wings. What am i? |

I think the decision is a hybrid choice. Better for majority of leveling to have the +40 life. End game at 90+ you likely have good gear and enough nodes to cover that deficit. The correct math should be done in this case to see if you want to exercise the option to respec out with the bandit recipe although it has extreme cost.
" most nonsensical post in this thread. Sick of the hardcore/softcore generalities. I'd say majority of people care about dying. Especially at higher levels. Doesn't hit them as hard but it still sucks and attempts to avoid it are taken. Pacific (GMT -8) Time
