[GUIDE] Corrupting Boxes for Fun and Profit

SCIENCE!
Forums are SOOO much fun on patch day!

Casuals play because it's fun, not to achieve any goal unreachable with their resources.
We are playing for the next difficulty, the next keystone, the next item upgrade.
Not to feel better than anyone else.

what are all those horrible items ? pls why doing this ... xD

Because most boxes drop nothing but worthless junk anyway, so it's funny. Plus you know free divine if I ever vendor the one I got.

Jewelry boxes however...well...there is almost no downside to scienceing them.
Thank you so much for posting this guide! I tried it out on a yellow ornate strongbox with +7 items, mirrored and ID'ed and got:
Spoiler

Two of each thanks to mirroring! Apart from the studded belt nothing very useful, but awesome for Chaos recipes. There were other whites but I did not hold on to them since the corruption had no effect.

This is a far better use of Vaal Orbs than doing this over and over:
Spoiler

This was also the most fun I have had in POE in a long time! Too bad the Satin Slippers turned out white.

Cheers!

Well the two 6-link items can be vendored for divine orbs which can then be sold for more Vaal orbs than you have spent.

Hopefully that 30 includes jewelry boxes as well.

I think I can safely say, that that's not correct. Yesterday I corrupted a blue Blacksmith's Strongbox with the +1 unique item mod, and the dropped unique was corrupted (and identified) as well. So it seems the corruption spreads to all items dropped. In fact, I can't remember seeing ANY non-corrupted item drop from a corrupted box since reading this thread.

Here's the corrupted unique that dropped, although you can't see it came from a blue box...

3 vaal'd Armors boxes. One scored a 5L with 4 off-colours:

I'm just imagining someone corrupting an armorer's and finding a yellow glorious plate with crappy rolls, two unlinked sockets, and Kaom's 2D art.
