PoE is not an MMORPG!
oh, Pw2 can and DOES work.
But it doesn't fit GGG's vision for a 'fair' game, and kudos to them for sticking to that despite a definite loss of potential profits. If I like a game, it'll either be amazing later or awful forever. There's no in-between.
I am Path of Exile's biggest whale. Period. |

" Then I hope they're prepared for a fight. Because the rmt industry is strong, and they don't even need to waste buying an account to get in this game and spam the crap out of it. They're gonna bot, they're gonna steal accounts (especially with no authenticator option), and they're going to make a fortune. Everyone tells you they hate RMT, but at least a third of them actively buy items. Meanwhile the players who are playing the real game are prohibited from profiting off their time. It's senseless when rmt is going to occur whether anyone likes it or not. Yet it's only profitable to the farmers because the legit players run the risk of losing everything. It's just not right to the players. Just my opinion. I certainly am not expecting GGG to suddenly switch sides and add a rmah (even if I think that would be awesome). Its as much of an MMO as Guild Wars.
Also, using a collectible card game as an example of P2W "working" is ridiculous. P2W is pretty much the entire point of a collectible card game and everybody knows that going in. Last edited by Angus#7367 on Feb 1, 2013, 7:52:03 PM

" Why even bring this garbage up, Marlaine? It's clear that your only intent in the PoE forum is to attempt to derail & poison this pure & fun game. It's not D3 and never will be D3, so get over it AND get over YOURSELF. |

" I know! Thats why I love this game so much and FFA loot is even more encouraging to play it safely solo (just the way i like it) without penelazing me with lesser loot. Social aspect, when you can still chat on Global or trade your hard earned loot is just a well thought addiditon to this already excellent game. Best ARPG Ever. Thank you GGG. “We all know that light travels faster than sound. That's why certain people appear bright until you hear them speak.”

For whatever reason, a lot of people do seem to be approaching PoE as an MMORPG - I guess that's where the clamouring for typical mainstream MMO features (unlimited respecs, instanced loot, etc) comes from.
What have you become when even nightmares fear you?

" Sorry, but that title belongs to Star Wars: The Old Republic. No one, and I mean no one, will manage to out do them (Bioware/Luca) in that regards. Other than that, I think a lot of people do mistakenly take PoE as a MMO, but most of the issues people have, stem from having been exposed to Blizzard games more than anything else. Just imagine if PoE came out before D3. Would the feedback still be the same? I think not. |

" One aspect where I can understand these arguments, is the very poor track record that simple prohibition has, be it in games or in life generally (the American flirtation with prohibition of alcohol being an especially disastrous example of this). Marlaine is right in this one respect. As PoE becomes more and more popular, when more and more people realise that this gem of a game is what ARPG's should be about, rather than bland cash-machines/grindfests, the use of secondary markets to enable unscrupulous players a P2W method will only grow. As sad as that is, I think it's entirely unavoidable, and completely untraceable. |

" I believe the team who developed this game have the genius enough to snub this kind of thing out systematically. Also, the way the game is designed currently as a niche game for niche players, offers little opportunity for that sort of thing. For it to work, there would need to be a viable market and it would have to be very convenient. The exploiters will stick to easy avenues like Diablo 3. That game was custom made as a place to house them. |

" I do wish I could say I think you are right grant_m, but I can't in any honesty. It reminds me of the situation with email spam. I was once contracted to design a new anti-spam system for an ISP. After a few weeks I finally recommended outsourcing the problem, because in all that time I could not even begin to find a real solution nor could anyone else in the industry for that matter. PS: I did, however, come up with a great way to automate spam in such a fashion as to defeat all anti-spam measures of the time... unfortunately I was too much of a white hat to be rich as a result.
