How can I stop being an Altoholic?
Thanks for everyone for replies. As all of you said, the game is supposed to be played how you enjoy it. I just love trying out nearly every usable skill. And I just want to make it to endgame with all of them to see that I've succesfully made an endgame char with that build. I sometimes realize in the process that I don't like the skill and I get bored of it, so I dump it in the road. That's not a problem for me because you can't get the same enjoyment from every skill in the game. The problem is usually; when I start making a build with a skill I like and can never get bored of, when I hit a wall because of gear or something, instead of sticking to that character and try to get the necessary things to make it continue the road, I find myself surfing the forum looking for different build which I imagine will have an easy time leveling and mapping and still be a as fun as my current char.
I know this is just looking for an easy way when you hit a wall instead of investing time and effort to carry that char to end. It's not just a problem of "play the game how you like it, don't look for others to tell you what you're doing wrong". I love trying different builds, and I also love trying to carry them to highest possible. Well, I try different build and enjoy it, but, for reasons above, I can't stick to them to the end. So I was asking for advices for the second part. Not because I want to stop playing the game how I like it to achieve the "success" that everyone else defines for me, but because I want to enjoy and experience the second part of the game too and I'm just looking for advices about that. |

I play this style but find I go back to builds because of gear I have found or new content plus the novelty can come back if you've not played a build in a while.

Skip step 6 and don't sell all of the stuff so you can go back to the other characters?
I mean your suppose to leave them there to play them again later. Last edited by RagnarokChu#4426 on Apr 7, 2014, 8:20:39 AM

" There! Thats your problem man, start thinking by yourself already, its much more fun to make your own personalized build than to just copy another's. Think about a skill or two that you like, think about a compatible tree, some items that would be nice to have and start building it. It will require patience, lot of thinking, it may not work as well as planned, but in the end of the day, hey, you are not bored cause you have problems to solve, gear to craft/buy, tree to revisit, people to talk to and ask opinion etc... I can never copy someone's build, thats just boring! "Hey man, nice shot"

" You might want to grind it out to lvl 80. With the time spent getting there, you should find some good items. Then spend your currency on pieces that aren't up to snuff. |

Not only am I an altoholic - I am also a hoarder. I have every character slot filled for quite some time now.
It pains me to delete any of them. And as i've slowly been forced to delete them to make new alts... the lowest level of my hoard of alts slowly grows - increasing the pain of deletion exponentially. I believe my lowest level char besides my new ambush alt is in the 50's. Most are over 60 - with over 10 lvl 85+ chars - most in HC. Not sure i'll be able to delete soon. I will be forced to sit around and wait for respecs. HELP IGN: VistaChris

I would say stop doing #5. It's probably because I never got in to the habit of looking for the "best builds" or "most efficient build" but I always make my own builds and go from there. Just because something might be the "best" build doesn't mean that it will be the most enjoyable build for you. So I would say make a character who is efficient enough to do maps, but do it will a build that you really enjoy and that should help you resist the temptation of finding the new "best" build out there to prevent you from repeating the cycle.
