I guess Glass cannons whine a alot

Yes, yes they do.

Tanks are punished by mechanics inherent to an ARPG.

Glass Cannons are punished by mechanics that GGG made to punish glass cannons.

Tanks actually have it much, much worse, IMO. Make yourself unkillable, and then it doesn't matter how good you are, you're still going through packs... slowly. Whereas if you're a glass cannon... you tear through mobs, and if you suck, then sometimes you die, but if you're awesome, you manually evade shit and just end up leveling up. Tanks aren't rewarded for good play, basically, but even glass cannons who suck can level at at least the same pace as tanks, up to 90 or so. After 90, the glass cannons that suck start dying too often to get further, and the tanks have a nice, relaxing, but slow as shit grind to 100. But the glass cannons who are awesome players can get to 100 much faster.

Of course, hybrid is pretty obviously better (and that's why you have people in Hardcore that level faster than people in Standard on the high end, because they know how to get just enough bulk to never die while maintaining enough DPS for fast clears), but I'm pretty sure there are no solo tanks near the top of the 1-month softcore ladder.

Anyway, my point was that tanks made a decision to be slow and steady, whereas just because glass cannons feel "artificially punished" by GGG, they feel entitled to complain all the damn time.

Nope sorry. HC hybrid builder here.
Usually the Devourers out of Dark Forest or in small amounts don't bother me.

But for whatever reason, the usual tactics don't work for larger packs or in shitty places like doorways or bad mods. Nevermind if you lose your shit and start flailing.

It's enough stress that if I hadn't already decided to try a Determ+Grace IR build for next league, I am now. I haven't died to them yet, but I feel it's just a matter of RNG eventually.

I've heard Acrobatics suggested, but I think that sounds absolutely insane. If I'm acro, I'm likely an archer. And that's not a build where I want to be walled-in. Sure it's nice that I'm automatically dodging a percentage of their attacks, but only if I get to control the number that are attacking me at any given time.

If I get swiped, evade four attacks but deadly crit by the fifth . . . yeah that's not comforting.

I had the pleasure to deal with Devourers in all-animal map from Zana yesterday. It was unbelievably stressful experience. I encountered 4 magic Devourer packs, of which the most memorable was the one with Spirit Walkers mod, where are nearly died twice in single encounter. I was lucky that when they emerged the first time, I was near doorways where they could not move fully into the opening, therefore, I was able to move out of their circle. I reckon there was more than 20 devourers in the beginning, which is absolutely crazy.

I honestly think Devourers should be limited to solo or low number spawns to serve as a jump-scare and solo predator. Alternatively, Devourers should not be impacted by map mods due to their nature and inherent power.
op here,
nothing against devourers spawning in groups, makes up for spectacular deaths, increased pulse and sweaty hands.

i was just asking if there is a cap, got no answer (because there is none probably).

so let this thread die please.

Hmm the max I had was like 30
And let me tell you I almost shit my pants :_D
Well im glad I play mostly summoner so I have meatbags that take all the damage
My problem is those fufing jumping or charging monsters :/
Best thing to do when you see a pack of devourers - DO NOT PANIC AND RUN. But that s what 90% of the players do and half of them ending up dead. Best thing to do - walk away just enough distance so they don't hit you melee and kill them right away. Do not let them follow you, otherwise, you are screwed.

It doesn't always work. If you've stopped for whatever reason and a pack spawns while you aren't moving, you just take instant damage. Ripped my 78 HC 1Mth in Untainted Paradise by Extra damage ones. Hit a pot and still instant ripped.

I also feel that attacking and killing popping Devourers is way to go, however, this might only be valid for lvl74 and lower maps. My scion (using Static Strike) with roughly 5k hp and mild damage mitigation can deal with them under lvl74 with little problems--granted I'm popping granite, chucking my saturated eternal flask alongside with instant divine flask, I also sport purity of fire in these maps (I cant help but feel that fire res helps with devourers).

My TS hunter, however, is scared shit-less by Devourers. I can handle single packs but Untainted Paradise had me chased by over what seemed like 50 of them including 2 magic packs and a rare one. I could barely stop for split second to shoot one TS before I had to move. It took me well over 4 frantic minutes to clear them because as I was moving in panic around I was getting more and more devourers on me. I only died once to that map, luckily it was only 6 or 7% into new level so it was no big loss.
