Scariest / creepiest area of the game?

Crematorium Level 2. The first time I went there and I heard the scream, I ALT+F4'd.

The prison made me realise what I missed in D2 the first time I stepped in. There were probably a couple of other run-down cellars and dungeons which were nicely done too. Lunaris temple obviously nailed a sweet spot; I wished they explained the reasons behind butchering so many people... would have given me something to think about.

I thought they were experiments where the insertion of a skill gem into their body killed them (so failed experiments) ;)
Proud 5th duelist in the Jul 1 2012 Ladder Race and in the Nov 3 2012 Solo Turbo Race :D
And even prouder 4th Templar in the Nov 10 Four-hour Party Hardcore Race :P
Current OB success:

Lunaris temple, just before piety. That goes without thinking, those huge stockpiles of bodies always remids me of holocaust pictures + i do that thing with removing earphones just to make sure screams arent real too :p
I definately have to say, Caverns of Anger. That ghost or spectre of merville that always walks backwards muttering some unknown evil launguage.. I find it scary, at the same time it pisses me off how i'm getting taunted by an NPC. Guess thats why they call it the Caverns of Anger.
Atmosphere is one of the things this game does really, REALLY well. Lunaris Temple is probably the creepiest, for obvious reasons.
What have you become when even nightmares fear you?
Maybe not scariest, but the most unpleasant area for me was the Forest, back when I was playing on a Wine wrapper that had some graphical glitches. Hordes of mostly invisible monkeys everywhere. I had to just go by the constant shrieking and fling a suitable AoE attack in their general direction.
not really because it's "scary" but i really enjoy the dungeon up to and including brutus, tower of sins, and lunaris lvl3. great atmosphere. i like catacombs too but i feel it's missing something.. the wall climbing spiders are a great addition

First play trough i would say brutus. Ran like a little girl around. Next would be the crematorium them screams are back chilling. The road to piety aswell.

This! :D
Lunaris Temple level 3. Not due to the tons of bodies and gore down there, but due to one detail I spotted during my 4th or 5th time there - after defeating a group of blood elementals, I was looking through ground loot, only to notice one of the bodies in the river of blood twitch and move.

Then gasp for air.

Nuff said.

Generally, I love the progression of Lunaris from the clean, Blackguard theme level 1 to the insanity that goes on at the bottom floor.
