Invasion players - no need to bash Standard Players

I'm cool with the hardcore people playing hardcore. Hell, you can insult the scrubcore people too. However, the moment you touch alt-f4 or escape exit, nothing you says about softcore means anything at all. If you play hardcore, play hardcore. If you play hardcore-lite, don't pretend you're playing hardcore.

And that's kind of the thing. Alt-F4 is available, and so every single hardcore/invasion player is not really playing hardcore at all. Protest all you like about how you did it "the right way." With precious few exceptions, no, you did not.

I like the idea of hardcore, and when I started playing, I wanted to learn a little about the game and then move to it. And then I discovered that there were forum threads were people discussed how to make an AHK script to send Alt-F4. To save one lousy keystroke, just to make absolutely certain that there was no actual risk at all. I immediately lost my desire to play in either hardcore or (at the time) Nemesis.

There are a number of 13-year-olds who insult softcore players for not being "hardcore" enough. When the definition of "hardcore" is "able to press Alt-F4 really, really fast," then I'm just fine not qualifying.

GGG specifically balances around the presence of ALT+F4 so saying that they aren't playing the game properly is kind of hilarious, when Chris has specifically said that he could never envision an ARPG without ALT+F4.

That's all well and good. Press Alt-F4 all you like. Just don't call it hardcore, because it isn't.

Please stop destroying softcore's last straw :D

GGG says it is.

Logout is a silly mechanic, I agree, but if the game is made so that you are suppoesd to use it, you use it. Even if combat didnt have spike damage on purpose, there's still desync. I always logout when I suspect I'm desynced (in SC or HC)

That is something you have to take up with the game designers, not with the players who use a "feature" that was explicitly stated to be a valid (and expected) part of a player's strategical toolbox. From that perspective, it's akin to a town portal.

Alt-F4 is also used by softcore players to dodge the XP penalty at higher levels. Dying at a high level may cost you days or weeks of playing.

(I do believe that expecting your players to terminate the game as part of their strategy is peculiar and really killing immersion.)

It is a smart tactic. It's a tactic that I use occasionally myself. No one is denying its usefulness.

But I don't play hardcore, and with Alt-F4 available, neither do you.

That being said, let's not lose sight of the point. The point isn't an argument between which is better, hardcore or softcore. There are parts of hardcore (the economy) that are vastly superior to softcore.

The point is that there are people who insult softcore players as being somehow inferior. The converse is not true. If there was a true hardcore mode in this game, a mode where if you got into a fatal position you, you know, died and lost your hardcore character, then perhaps some of it would be forgivable on the basis of hardcore players actually being superior. But given that one can play hardcore and softcore equivalently successfully using exactly the same tactics if one commits to using Alt-F4 liberally, hardcore players haven't accomplished anything that softcore players couldn't.

And that's fine. I have no problem with that. I'm not going to claim that hardcore players are inferior, because they're not. Just don't pretend that you're somehow special in any way because you mistake the meaning of the word hardcore.

What does time have to do with Hardcore league? I don't play much anymore, but I'm still able to play in hardcore...

You just made up your own definition of hardcore and act like it's the one that's correct. You also act like softcore and hardcore play is the same because there's instant logout involved. You clearly have never played hardcore seriously before :) Good luck alt+f4ing those oneshots. Also good luck climbing the invasion ladder while alt+f4ing all the time.

P.S.: I can understand that some softcorers are butthurt over being talked down or not taken seriously by hardcore players. My condolences.
