is RNG really just RNG?

RNG in this game is layered. And weighted. So many quirks, it can't be counted as "true" RNG anymore. Socket chances on jewelers are weighted (making max sockets less likely than other numbers). Same goes with linking. Socket colors are dependent on its primary attribute. Dunno if that's the case for affixes. Nothing in this game has equal chances.

I'm just happy to see the acronym properly used for once.

Of course it's weighted, how stupid would it be if everything had the same chance to roll?
GGG banning all political discussion shortly after getting acquired by China is a weird coincidence.
To me RNG in POE means you most likely will find nothing of value at all. I always have asked myself how some people could be so lucky in this game, finding several exalts or end game uniques.

In hc league I have around 100 exalts after having played poe for more or less 1 year, and still haven't found a single end game unique that is worth more than 3 ex. I really have no idea where my shavronne's wrapping or my koam heart come from; I got them from trading but I can't figure out if really somebody ever found them in the game.

It is just as frustrating as it is/was (since I haven't played this game for about 1 year) in D3.

That being said, POE remains a really nice game, the best of all role games I know. Yes the drop rate/ system is broken and lead to frustration, but this is just a part of the game.

Sometimes I feel the RNG system is just broken, for example in Invasion league I have lvled a templar to lvl 74, have done some docks/lunaris runs, plus around 20 maps in group. Still I haven't found a single map yet. To be honest I wonder if this is a bug or just the bad luck. Anyway I'm about to reroll sometimes else, since my last reroll died in a2 merciless :s

If I am skilled/lucky enough to get to act3 merciless perhaps I will find some maps this time, and be able to run maps on my own.

=.= Pls ignore my old threads (more than 1 month ago) =.=

If Rng was Rng then consider me fucked. 2 years of playing this game from closed beta to now. All I have ever found that could be consider end game unique was a pair of thunderfists 2 leagues ago (back when they were worth 8-10ex). Im not upset that I don't find an awesome item everyday. I wouldn't want that. But lightning that strikes maybe kinda once every 2 years is utter bullshit.

And for the love of god, why do I have to slog through the hell of trading because I want a powerful item. Why the fuck cant I just find it ingame??

I will try to explain. GGG wants their game to be hard. If you could find really good gear, the game wouldn't be hard, so you can't. At the same time though, if there were no chance at all to get good gear, no one would play. So they've struck a balance where enough good stuff drops to get your hopes up, but not enough good stuff drops so that you can expect to get it yourself. Masterful.

Either be happy with the dregs you get, or trade with people who have found better gear. Those are really the only two sustainable strategies.

To me, a lot of this is a question of enablement. I have to do some stuff to enable the parts of the game I find most fun. I dont mind some of that. When it become excessive I dislike it.

Start with the fact you need an easy farming toon. The game involves grinding and farming and you need someone that can do it quickly and easily. I have a 2H ST Scion for this, but there's lots of builds that will work. If you dont have a famring toon, consider developing one.

You can get maps by farming Piety on your farming toon. Your farming toon needs to get to level 70-ish and have good resists, good life and life-leech and decent DPS. It doesnt need to be an end-game-map capable character. But it needs to be able to mow down miscreations in Lunaris 3 and kill Piety without too much difficulty. Deaths dont matter, you dont have to advance this toon.

the Farmer enables the build(s) you want to play. Plan on farming for currently, rares, maps, etc.

Yesterday I spent about 4 hours farming a Vaal Spectral Throw gem. All so I can hold it at level 6 or so on ANOTHER farmer I have - the one I farm Stone Hammers with so I can turn maps into Chisels. I didnt have that much fun doing it, but it wasnt that bad.
I played in OB and had super shitty luck. Rarely ever found anything good and never really had enough currency to trade. I took a break for about 6 or 7 months and came back just at the end of the last 4 month league. Started a new Scion and in my first 3 hours I had found a bunch of alchs, several chaos, 5 uniques, and several good quality rares. I found two uniques in a row in one area. I was thinking "holy shit, GGG buffed drop rates!". I was so nervous that my streak would end I didn't say anything in chat to avoid jinxing myself. Next time I logged in I didn't find anything decent for 20 or 30 hours. /sigh

Ambush starts so I roll a new toon in there looking forward to what I was sure to be a new found life of fat lewts, at least at the start. Nope. Couldn't find shit. No exalts. Only found 1 chaos (but 15 Vaal orbs while everyone was bitching in chat about how rare they were, go figure). I had found 4 uniques but that was in like 60-70 hours of game play which is a super shitty return rate, especially when a couple of them are so crap that they aren't used by anyone. So since I also have a theory that some factor at toon creation impacts your luck I rolled a new toon. This one is having much better luck. By that I mean I've found a few chaos, one useful unique for my build, and a couple of decent rares.

I also had a theory that if you were a streamer your drops were somehow boosted. I would watch someone like Kripp play for 15 minutes and find 2 exalted, a 6L chest, and 3 awesome uniques (exaggerating but you get the point) and wonder why I never got luck like that... like, ever.

However, I am wise enough to know that my sample sizes are microscopic and probably over the long term my luck is "average" but it's hard to stop the paranoia and second guessing. My tinfoil hat fits very comfortably so I tend to leave it on for long periods of time.
POE Serenity Prayer: GGG, grant me the serenity to accept the RNG I cannot change,
the courage to challenge any unbalanced content, and the wisdom to avoid the forums.
Mad: "Oh, it's simple and if you insist... I just think you're a dick. That's all."

I get that I really do. But as it goes for me, knowing that my current streak is what it is and all, it gets very hard to continue playing. And to be honest to play as much I as do, and for this long of a time, a person is probably two things: Lucky to have so much free time, and has a lot of love for this game. I just feel that for anyone who isn't in that group, it has to be so much more frustrating to deal with this rng.

And you know, I cant come up with a better method just off the top of my head, But I do think some kind of adjustment to drops needs to be made. Just so when you meet the guy that has the high ilvl 6 link with a 6 link Searing Touch...oh...and a shavs you can still feel like your turn is around the corner.

Nobody ever said its a uniform distribution. Why should it? It would be highly pleasant if some guys complaining about RNG would learn how statistics work. Please read https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Law_of_large_numbers. Its really not too hard to understand.
