is RNG really just RNG?

Interesting topic.
I usualy get a good orb or item just 60 seconds into gameplay and then 2 hours of nothing at all. Sometimes it feels like I'm having a currency-flag (no currency at all) and suddenly an orb of scouring drops. (or something equal)
The same for rares. It feels like I always get good rares for other builds, but not for mine.
Uniques are very rare in one session and plentyfull in another.

And yet I know that this is all just random. I imagine patterns, just like the real life folks do when they think that it is their lucky day. (or not)
13k spectral throw seems highly unlikely. you would need much higher DPS weapon for that and more passive points.

he might be counting 'true' dps, ie 2000 dps with three projectiles is 6000 and with a return trip is 12k. Good auras and attack speed would bypass that enough that him counting return is unlikely, but 4k dps on an lmp is believable.

idk his words but he was wrecking everything, while I was barely scratching stuff. Btw that terminus was self found too. I cant seem to win.

I need me a 7 leaf clover, owell I just keep grinding away anyways.

RNG...

6 time Vaal Fireball in 20 Vaal instances

Randomness???

I don't think so.

If you throw a dice, you have as much chances to get a 1 or a 6. Now THAT is randomness.

If you socket a chest piece, you have ((bus parked up your ass) X (odds of you winning the lottery without buying any tickets)) / (times you landed on the moon naked + amount of time you get a foot massage per year)) chances to get a 6 sockets

Now that is GGG's snake oil fucked up "randomness".
Two things are infinite: the universe and human stupidity; and I'm not sure about the the universe.

I highly doubt he has Terminus Est 6 socket 5 link with 13k spectral throw dps at sub level 60.

At that rate of scaling he'll hit 30k easy at level 80.

Now having a 6/5 term est is pretty lucky considering 5link/6 sockets don't start dropping until like 40+

What you need to understand about randomness is that it's naturally extremely streaky.

When we think about random we tend to imagine very regular patterns, kinda like a sine wave. Ups and downs with regular intervals. You win some, you lose some, mentality.

But that's not how random works though. There's no rules to random, no patterns, it doesn't give you wins after you lose again and again and again and again. Nor does it give you losses after you win again and again and again and again.

It's this damn streakiness of RNG that causes massive frustration and private swearing about the too much randomness of PoE. Crafting *cough* of item features (alts, jewellers, fusings, etc.) has way too much random chance in it. Just farm till your mouse buttons and fingers wear out, then sink orb after orb after orb on an item and pray that RNG gets you the results sooner than later. No real skills needed, just a whole ocean of RNG luck.

Crafting = "an art, trade, or occupation requiring special skill, especially manual skill."

Since most things we want to do (such as 6S-6L an item) is based solely on RNG luck there is no skill involved thus the term crafting shouldn't be used by GGG.
"You've got to grind, grind, grind at that grindstone..."
Necessity may be the mother of invention, but poor QoP in PoE is the father of frustration.

I dunno.

RNG seems fine to me. Isn't every mob I kill supposed to drop legacy uniques and sixty four exalted orbs?

Because they are, I've run out of stash tabs for all those legacy Kaom's and exalted orbs.

Boy are they ever. No MF on? You might find yellows, but the mods will almost always be all garbage. From the farming I did w/200iir on the Invasion bosses before the nerf/rebalancing, it was perfectly clear that GGG had increased the quality of mods that would drop from them-- i.e., HP and double resists for amror, and Physical % incrase plus flat phys on melee weapons; regular yellows and mimibosses in the same zone would drop yellows with junk mods.

Personally I suspect there's also a sort of diminishing return mechanic applied to time played. That is to say, the longer you farm the worse drops will get. I can't tell if it's just based on overall seesion time, or if it has to do with the number of particular instance/s open or what. But it's clear to me that there's some sort of hidden system in place to discourage (over)farming.
