Is anyone actually using Vaal Gems?

using vaal ice nova as a sort of finishing move on my summoner witch.

i play on ambush legue and basicly i kill stuff with my zombies and skellies just normal but when i trigger a strongbox and the screen gets filled with ambush monster i fire off the vaal ice nova and start collect loot.

other then that i use it when theres a real shitload of trash mobs to save time. as a summoner i have no great AE skills beside this one.

i tried also the vaal power siphon.
it is gear related but in my case it totally sucks compared to the ice nova :)

all other vaal gems sit in stash and i cant think of anything usefull on them.

Use vaal power siphon to spread conditions on all nearby mobs, recharges pretty quickly as well. Seems to be one of the better vaal skills I ran into.

It IS ridiculous to have to gather up SOOOO many souls just to fire the spells 1 time!!

I tried to use the Vaal Summon Skeletons gem on my witch, but it is almost impossible to store up 64 souls before you have cleared an entire zone, and despite the claim that it will store the charge for later use, this is a LIE, I had 64 souls stored up and was awaiting for an opportune moment to throw the spell, but when it came all of a sudden I had to reclaim 64 more souls????

I just started using vaal skeletons, I play a summoner and it compliments the zombies and spectres well and I dont have anything linked to it.

This thread is a magnet for the few people who are using them to come talk about how they are doing so.

However just watch any PoE stream or join any public party and observe how many people are using them.... it ain't many.

Vaal Gems are sort of an optional gimmick at the moment, not anything of substance to the core game.

The whole last patch feels like this to me.

I have Vaal gem to use once per area to clear out a creep wave I could already clear myself just fine and do it without the graphically unoptimized spell effect.

I have Vaal orbs which I will only use on cheap items.

I have Vaal instances which I will skip most of the time.

I agree, I like most of the additions, but I really wish they'd focus on getting a new act done instead.

I played around with some molten shell (vaal)

set it off at the boss usually , works great

I use Vaal Arc and Vaal Ice Nova. Arc chains 50 times and can sometimes clear whole rooms. The ice nova one is helpful right after opening a chest in ambush league or when otherwise surrounded and normally kills almost everything. I alternate them on my hot key bar. Use arc then switch to nova. They also seem to charge up pretty quickly IMO. 32 souls go pretty quick. Though I am pretty new to Poe, so my opinion might suck :P also I'm in act 3 on normal yet, and it's my first toon. Again - new to poe haha.
