Why does GGG not advertise there game better?
|
1. It cost a lot of money to advertise.
2. GGG stated that even if they had money to blow, they wouldn't spend it on expensive marketing. 3. They have even asked us on the forums for our help; and I've read through the OP and it offers no new solutions. GGG listens to its fans!!! Thank you!

If GGG started advertising, it would mean that they would be reaching out to a larger audience outside of the "gamer" community. This desire to reach a larger fan base forces certain mechanical decisions in order to make the game more approachable to an expanding client base. GGG has neatly sidestepped the need to compromise their game in order to appeal to the masses. This is extraordinarily admirable, as it is almost assured that they could increase revenue phenomenally by tailoring the game to a more casual/stupid audience. The gaming community has changed quite a bit over the years, and many of the newcomers to the scene want games like Skyrim, with little challenge in the actual gameplay. Hard games are a dying genre, one that GGG is reviving in Path of Exile. While they could make more money by opening the game up through advertising and easing the learning curve, they have instead chosen to go the route of word of mouth/community based support for a difficult, challenging, and ultimately, more rewarding style of gameplay. Hats off to them. If GGG started advertising, they would either have to make the game simpler for the masses, or it would be simply a waste of resources better invested back into the game and its creators.
