Why does GGG not advertise there game better?
|
Maybe im alone on this but for me I find the advertising for this game lacking. When I first heard about this game it was a friend of a friend situation how I found out, for me the reason that was crazy is because all I do is watch game media im constantly online looking for new games but this one was not on my surfing adventures.
I have played now consistantly from just after open beta and still feel like the only people that know about this game are the people who are playing it regularly. I love the game and support it still but what I dont get is how come they dont seem to advertise it?, the steam move was a good idea to get some more players aware but my experiance with steam is that there free to play section is advertised once then left to rot never to be seen again. GGG is now releasing new content to bring old players back but that only works for the old players who happen to checkup on the game and unless they are telling there friends about it still your trailers and videos I think are being missed. They have put up one trailer of the new content on there site here main page but what about all the others? why not have your own advertising on your own site when its released or at the vary least visable links to your interviews and such. If you guys posted a link to this video of your new content on your front page I think this is way better then your trailer so instead of having just your trailer why not have all of them?. I found this content video of the new stuff http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vm0WYpCXkfw only because I was desperatly looking for more on the game, this is your own advertising why do you not use this on your main page also I dont understand im sure most people dont know about this. Anyways sorry for this rant to people who think im crazy but im vary tired and thought I had a valid point even just somthing simple like updating there youtube channel to say we wont put out the weekly build atleast tells the community somthing instead of telling us one thing then doing nothing silence is bad. |

" Hmm I'm out of the loop here. He said the D3 add-on sucks, he's playing it now? If GGG chickens made an action RPG, what would it be called? Path of Eggxile, a Peck 'n' Slash RPG.
Why was the helmet spluttering? It was a coif. |

" He has bugs and exploits to find and abuse until they get fixed and he can jump to the next game and do it all over again. |

I play my tiny part. I repost their facebook posts and tell my friends about it when I go out and they ask what I've been doing lately. GGG isn't some huge company with a billion dollars to blow on advertising. they do what they can and probably rely on that word of mouth advertising.
Sound the dread alarm, through the primal body! Sound the reveille, to be or not to be. Rise! Stay the grand finale! Stay the reading of our swan song and epilogue. One drive to stay alive! Elementary, muster every fiber. Mobilize! Stay alive!

" Wow, sounds like a real nasty guy. We should break into his house and steal all his Chicken Noodle Soup, then the next time he gets the cold he will never recover. |

GGG is an independent gaming studio. That means they lack the financial backing that EA or ATVI can offer. I would speculate that PoE cost less money to develop than EA sank into the advertising campaign of Dead Space 3 alone.
On the flip side, that means that PoE is financially viable much, much earlier than a Dead Space 3. Which, despite selling millions of copies (and dominating sales charts), still 'failed to meet expectations'. Gaming magazines provide a sort of catch-22 about games that do not carry big names: Gamers buy what they know, and reporting about things they don't know is always a gamble. So they usually provide huge coverage to established brands while up-and-comers need to have mix of luck, persistence and a 'marketable' concept to even get noticed. And of course, gaming mags rely on ad space to survive. Which is not likely to be sold to a small indy studio. Another reason to cater to the big players. Sure, it would be great if PoE was as well-known as the Sims or Tomb Raider. Or would it? Being small has advantages, too. I have already mentioned that PoE has a far, far easier time of being financially viable than a lot of the big shots. But wait, there is more: The bigger a company, the less creative freedom the devs usually retain over their games. Money becomes a much bigger factor in decisions, and the more money you need, the less options you have for obtaining it. As a developer, you often have to sacrifice your creative vision for it. Just imagine a PoE where Queen Atziri was not a four-titted, pierced abomination but just another Sauron expy "because it tested well with the focus groups". Or a PoE where the mod "more gore" has to go because it offends sensitivities. Or a PoE where the skill mycelium had to go because it was deemed "too hard for newcomers". I would love to see PoE exposed more to the public eye. But considering the trade-offs, I much prefer what we have today. And I do promote the game as much as I am able to. Word of mouth, baby! 12/12/12 - the day Germany decided boys are not quite human. Last edited by Avireyn#0756 on Mar 1, 2014, 7:46:19 AM
