Why is the inventory so horribly small?

To make a nice big stack of Scrolls of Wisdom I started collecting loads and loads of whites. Didn't even worry about big staves and swords. I just took it all. But only because I got incredibly lucky and found the Portal skill so I could go to town back and forth for 0 cost. Wouldn't recommend it when you have a limited supply of TP scrolls. Just follow the tips already mentioned in this thread and you'll do fine ^^

You're not supposed to pick up every piece of loot that drops to vendor it. Break that habit now, you're just wasting time and TP scrolls.

Perhaps I really should just break this habit.

In Diablo and Torchlight series, I would pick up everything at first just to establish an alright gold base, and then quickly move to only picking up magical and higher quality items to save on trips to town and TP scroll purchases. Since gold is the main currency in those games, this isn't a real issue. Hell, in Diablo III, whites are worth single-digit amounts of gold even (I used to loot everything in D3 because of the vast inventory and small space for item requirement, but white items aren't worth it period after a while).

On Path of Exile, your not trading for gold, but for parts of other items (commonly scrolls), which is probably more useful in a way than gold. I like gathering parts of items just to have a large stash of em for later use if need be.

+1.

In my opinion, inventory is the perfect size and it should not be changed.

(One thing I do find slightly annoying is the layout of the inventory - specifically, the fact that it's 5 spaces high. There are too many items that take up 1x4 and 2x4 spaces in your inventory, and so it's common to end up with as much as 20% of your inventory space empty because you have no Nx1 sized items to fill it up.)

At least some of this micromanagement could be eliminated by having things auto-sort in your inventory. Having to play tetris in order to organize your inventory in the middle of fighting isn't fun for me, and I can't help feeling like I stepped into a time machine and am playing a game that is much older than it is.

There are efficient ways to move items around to fit more in your bag, and I think it's already been established by modern gaming conventions and player consensus that doing this manually, o-n-e p-i-e-c-e a-t a t-i-m-e isn't fun.

In fact, I may make a post about this exact issue sometime in the future, as it affects the stash as well (scraps turning into full items don't auto-stack).
Wash your hands, Exile!
Your are exiled - you just dont have 10 slaves carrying around your stuff on cargoships. I think its pretty damn good to hold 6 Big chest amours and 6 Pair of Boots at once an still beeing able to fight. Duno but i think the inventory is way to big - they should reduce it by 50%!
Dear Math, please grow up and solve your own problems, I'm tired of solving them for you.
If only we could get some of those cargo pants with 5 pockets on each leg. Then we would have enough inventory space!

You can still do this by doing it really close to a waypoint and resetting the instance on the way back from town. Or, you could do merciless twilight strand over and over if you are just looking to bulk up on id scrolls.

A. Pick up stuff that will upgrade your current gear.

B. Pick up stuff you will use later and can sell for more currency

C. Pick up everything and waste lots of time going back to town.

What's the logic in having the inventory as small as it is? I don't have having to make trips back to town every 5 minutes to sell junk... Especially when things like a long sword take up 8 slots... realistic maybe but this is just annoying.
answer on your thread title because in this game u are meant to make choices including what loot u take and what u dont take
