Advancement WITHOUT trading?

As a SFL(I mean no trade whatsover and mostly play solo 95% of the time).No.You dont need trade. You will need it if you will try to find some weird combination of good uniques for your first char. No,you dont need so much iir and iiq.Things gets better and better when you can map all maps in 10 mins, there is a guarantee that sooner or later you will find things by your self.

What bothers me the most,is people claiming that trade is essential when i know for sure from myself that trading is just a convinience and not at all as necessity.

If you think that getting right of the bat the best item offered in the $trade a necessity for you, then you are doing it wrong, that is all i can say
Bye bye desync!
Trade becomes "essential" after your first trade. So they're not unreasonable when they claim that it is. It's their option that started the problem, even though they tend to blame it on game mechanics like drop rates.
It depends on how you are geared and on much time you are willing to invest until enough game-changing gear drops.

If you arrive at merciless Piety with gear that just covers the basics and 2 ~170 dps 1-hand weapons and start farming her, with some MF there is a good chance that you will get an upgrade in less than 50 runs.

If you arrive with good gear and 2 ~230 dps 1-hand weapons your chances to get an upgrade within 50 runs are quite bad, especially for the weapons, even with high MF.

If you arrive with gear that basically needs no upgrade and you want to farm for interesting uniques or good high-level gear for another char (a high dps wand for example): this might take some time, and I mean reeeally some time.

All the while you can stock up on currency by vendoring rares and blues. You can alch rings and amulets (and belts), if you are lucky you get usable ones, if not you can use them for the chaos recipe. Babystepsstyle.

There will be a change to trading, however. GGG has been planning to implement a system that allows offline trade for quite some time now, it just has not arrived yet. There will be no AH though, they said so.

Ok, so, pretty new player here, and my question is fairly simple: How far is it realistically possible to get without using the trading system? And preferrably without then grinding for 2 zillion hours.

Thats not going to happen. Either trade or grind forever and end up with mediocre stuff.

This completely depends on your outlook of the game. If you start a certain build and want to end up with high end stuff or good uniques for that build then there is a good chance that trading IS essential. If you all you want to do is finish the game regardless of how long it takes then no its not essential.

This is a ARPG/Hack-And-Slash games, it's meant to get slow and the point of this game is....grinding. IF you dont like that aspect of the game then maybe this game isn't for you.

If the point of the game was grinding then trading wouldn't have such a heavy focus.

Why are you even asking this with your highest level being 26? [Removed by Admin]

If you're not progressing at that point, I hate to break it to you but your build sucks. There is no need to trade at all until maybe merc act 3, so you're pulling this attitude straight from your ass.

Even if there were a baby's-first-videogame auction house or whatever, you would not be buying/selling anything at level 26.

And by the way, easier =/= better. Believe it or not, there is a certain type of skill involved with proper trading. It's called people skills and math, crazy right? There isn't a Wal-Mart in Wraeclast, unfortunately for you.

Please note that anyone who trades is going to have a different meaning for "mediocre" than someone who doesn't trade at all will.

People skills + math + trading = sleazy carsalesman
OP, expect to reach about lvl 65-75 (Act 3 Merciless) when you hit the "fun" wall. Actually, once you get past Act 1 Merciless you'll start to realize just how much the game shoves you towards trading. The upgrades get less and less, and grinding for 10-20 levels without gear that you actually need just wears you down.

Yeah, you'll find uniques. A couple you may wear for stats that help incidentally (IIR, IIQ, Elemental Resist, etc.) but finding a unique that helps you kill shit is few and far between. You'll find unique weapons that are incompatible with your build. And then find uniques that are compatible but shit in your face just for fun (Quill Rain, anyone?)

Don't give up, tho. SFL is coming.

At what level do ilvl 60+ drop enough to vendor? Certainly not at lvl 70.

You're confusing ilvl with req level.
