New league starter builds?
" a caster will never achieve the dps of a blender build as it stands now, unless he goes coc-discharge or something like that which you can't really do on an iron will build. my iw caster atm is lvl74, but i can't tell you how much effective he is as a pure caster because i mainly use DD as a spell which isn't buffed at all from IW. BUT at lvl74 with not so great equip and a build mainly focused on DD i STILL have on a simple 4l a 1400 damage/stage flameblast (lvl17, not20) with 0,22 casting time and a huge aoe (+60%) (and penetration ofc). That is close to 6.5k dps huge aoe, and if in a 5l it would also do a ~11.5k dps burn. so ~18k dps, not shabby for a build that focuses on something else entirely (p.e. i have in my whole equip +passives the massive amount of.. 8% increased spell damage). +with 5k hp and ~700ES i'm not too glassy for a ranged character. i had an IW frost crit build back in beta, but things have changed way too much since then so i don't really know how it will fare now though. as for summonners, just pick up minion nodes, aura nodes, and life for starters. There are like a gadzillion guides in witch and scion subforums for them that are much more detailed^^ Last edited by shroudb#3225 on Feb 25, 2014, 2:39:45 PM

I am leaning towards starting a scion with spectral throw and then later moving her to summoner to farm for some proper builds.

I don't know about you guys, but the only sane way I can think of to make a new league starter build is to wait until I know the details of the leagues and changes to passives/skills etc, then maybe sit and think for an hour.
If it were just a ladder reset, I'd probably level a mf summoner for gear for a week, and then whatever I fancied. This is looking like a pretty major update, I'm hyped. If anything, I'm hoping that the changes are substantial enough that it's not possible to figure out strong builds for the start of the league without knowing the details -- otherwise the changes would have to be incremental enough to not warrant an "expansion" label or non-bugfix version-number bump. http://www.twitch.tv/exhortatory

" Exactly. I think I've got about 6 vastly different "outlines" of builds, just stuff I think would work well. Which one I'll choose, create a skilltree around and play depends hugely on what is changed in the patch. |

I’m thinking about starting with a spectral throw fire trap Scion. Once in act 2 I’ll switch to a wander and use Power Siphon, Frenzy with keynote Conduit. Early levels would be slow but once I can start stacking IIR and attack speed a 6 person team with full charges should be able to faceroll.

go scion and have a witch alt to get minion gems.
that way you get spectral throw for the early game when minions are kinda meh and then and drop it later when you get EE NA and some minion nodes / auras |

" 1. Scion is less efficient for building summoner with the current tree. 2. Raging Spirit works at low level. Any fool can criticize, condemn and complain and most fools do.

" I don't think that's true. Scion can get to all the nodes witch can but take cast speed and es instead of all the nodes witch needs to spend on +10 int along the top. I like the witch alt, scion ST idea, I might just try doing a raging spirit summoner though. |

" Lord of the Dead says any Scion has to path through the Witch starting nodes. It is also less efficient to take the Scion Spell Damage nodes than it is to path down from the left side of the Witch tree, given most summoners will be pathing past Clear Mind towards the top of the tree for EB and/or Hex Master. Even +int nodes will benefit a summoner more than Spell Damage. I was planning on building my summoner as a Scion in the next league, but I could never make it as efficient with the current tree. Any fool can criticize, condemn and complain and most fools do.
