No matter which game wins, there will always be hate. Most people don't look at this kind of stuff rationally, they rather get emotional because 'their' game didn't win. This works both ways, of course.

It's such a contrast to the writing and music forums I hang out at, too. Granted, I've been on gaming forums since the Usenet days, so it's nothing new, but the fanaticism (of either kind) is remarkable compared to other discussion areas about recreational activities. (And people can be very, very loyal to their favorite instrument or books, too!)

The "hate", fanaticism and strong emotions are typical for gamers, and you really find that on pretty much any gaming forum. It's completely independent of the actual game (more common with competitive games, though). I speculate that it's because of all the unspent adrenaline that collides with lack of exercising and movement, and the testosterone overproduction that younger males are often drowning in.
