Poll: Monster life number display

Should numbers be shown on the monster life bars?

Yes
59617.61%
No
51215.13%
If enabled in the options
227767.27%
I'm all for this, although I'd personally prefer if the higher difficulty modes had it deactivated.
Granted, the player would still know the mob's HP if he looked it up, but it would make it ever so slightly more challenging regardless.
The damage you deal is an important information. In some circumstances the way of displaying it can be disturbing.

It would be nice to have some kind of information during the fight. Information about crit hits, misses, resists and dodges would be welcome.

Agree :) And will have to agree with the Poll so far.

Something in say, "Display Options" on the Main-Menu:
- Display Monster Health - (Drop Down Box - Enable/Disable)
- Display Type:(Drop Down Box - Value or Percentage)

*Option unavailable in Hardcore and some Leagues.

Ofcourse I just noticed that "if enabled in options" is selected most. The problem would lie in PVP where it offers a unfair - though minute - advantage against someone that doesn't enable it.
having a lot of options isn't a bad thing, you know? (though i have to say, i don't care about the PvP thing brazen just mentioned. and i don't think it would be too much to ask of people to switch it on before doing PvP. it's not something that'll take you 10 minutes...)

that's one thing i never could stand about the diablo series... basically no options. hate it. yes, one can overdo it but honestly... in my 20 years of being a gamer, i've only seen that once. so too many options is not something one should be overly concerned about. too few is.

What?
Unfair?
PvP?

Then, people/players, should explore the options they are given. If those users don't take part in these discussions within the community, (and I like, that you did) especially PvP players to check out the option menu, then they forfit those *advantages*.
Previous games of the same genre offer these options. And most players/people, take that *advantage* or Option. Im sure people will bring up the menu to cater for screen resolution etc, if they skip this option, then it's down to them and not a point valid against the general idea.

It's an option, not a advantage/disadvantage. If your not interested in the game or it's just options to that person, then to be honest... You shouldn't be playing it. And if you do... Then you deserve to be disadvantaged, either in PvE or PvP.

The time spent designing/making a game, and people can't be bothered to check their options, should get that disadvantage.

Overall, it's not an *advantage*.... Just --*common sense*--

Just people with quick comments to judge, and no thought into it what-so-ever...
Options are good for you, whether it enables combat text, or the next thing.
USE IT!

**At least it gives options to "that" player, who has the sense to do so"

If disagreed upon.. Ill quote myself:
"
*Option unavailable in Hardcore and some Leagues.

And PVP!!!

It still needs the option(s), in the menu, but you could have just extended my quote by adding, PvP as your argument. :)

I agree 100% with Splintainc (an moany others). I think this is the perfect solution. It should be turned off on some of the higher diffuculty levels and game types (ie Hardcore, PVP if it causes problems) to increase difficulty.
I voted no, but would not be terribly opposed to it being included as an option.

When a fantasy world becomes too legible then it's no longer mysterious or fantastic. Obviously everything in a game like this has numbers behind it, but whether they are easily visible or not is up to the designers.

The reason I voted no instead of optional is the following: If enabling it is as easy as clicking a button, and it bestows some advantage (even minimal), then you're forcing me to make a decision whether I value that advantage or my sense of immersion more. Having to make that decision already takes away a tiny bit of the fun in my opinion.

That said, I understand this type of game has a strong appeal to min-maxing types and don't hold it at all against them.
I support a toggled option as well. For me, it doesn't seem imperative to know the total/remaining health on skeleton #12 in a group of 20. The less clutter for general monster bashing, the better.

For situations where tactics are required, such as in pvp combat, knowing the total HP of an opponent can give a rough idea of how players spent some of their skill points, or what they're wearing, and allow players to choose a loadout accordingly.

See a character with an unusually large amount of health? Opt for a more niche weapon that does damage based on the percentage of health rather than raw damage*. In cases like these, Knowledge is power that gives combat a bit more depth.

(*just an example, i don't know if such a thing exists/will exist)

Also, the point made earlier that it makes PvP unfair doesn't hold much weight for me as it is a toggled option available to every player.

I believe people should have the choice in showing numbers or not. In the event that certain skills are triggered or become more potent at certain percentages of life, knowing the exact health could be very beneficial. At higher levels of play, minor changes have drastic consequences, especially in hardcore.

I personally would use the health numbers for the advantage, however small it is. I am sure there are many purists out there that refuse to be given additional information though. The choice should be up to the individual. You can't please them all but you can at least please more of them.
