The loot allocation and how it works
This might seem like a ridiculous question to some of you, but there must be something obvious I'm not grasping about the loot allocation thingy.
I kinda don't understand why people prefer the Perma loot allocation. Isn't short alloc way better, especially for XP grinding runs? I see it like this: People rush through the location, not picking up items they aren't interested in. But someone else might be interested in that particular item, yet they are unable to pick it up themselves because it was permanently allocated to someone else. "Oh, you want this item I left on the ground? Sure, I'll pick it up for you, if you give me [insert in-game currency]..." Really? Do people really think it's a good idea? How? I once mentioned in a party that I don't like perma allocation, to which one of the party members replied with something along the line of "this way, people can't steal my items". What did they mean; steal their items? Why don't they consider it "stealing" when the item is perma allocated to another party member, then? Another odd thing I noticed is that I almost never get any good item. All the maps, all the more valuable orbs are always allocated to someone else, so another question comes to mind: Are there any specific conditions for an item to be allocated to a certain party member? Does the party leader get the most/ the best items, maybe? Is the player's level taken into account somehow? Or amount of damage done? Or am I just really, really unlucky? I'm not complaining or ranting about the current loot system, I'd just like to discuss it a bit; to understand it better ;) Last edited by Koffin_Kat#0495 on Dec 5, 2013, 5:38:23 AM

Don't even bother trying to argue with it.
Everyone here goes crazy for Perm allocation because they're afraid their going to lose "their" loot. Also so they don't feel they have to risk their life to pick up something "that should rightfully be theirs". Even though everything in this game is random, so having your name be chosen randomly doesn't/shouldn't mean you technically own shit. It's a losing battle brother. Just join Short allocations or free for alls if you can. It's not worth it arguing with these numbskulls. I remember when they said they were going to stick to short allocation forever but too many people started causing a ruckus. BACK IN MY DAY... |

Because fighting for loot in a party is a stupidiest thing to do in a party. It's bullshit.

" So you would rather see everybody stop attacking and defending so that they can wait for the allocation timer to run out? If GGG is so insistent on this poor excuse for a 'cutthroat' element, why the hell doesn't they give us the option to attack anybody that taken their loot 'claim' or scammed in trade? A whole land full of criminals and we can't do that? If A deal between different gangsters go bad the side that got the short end of the deal don't go 'okay, fine', they freaking start murdering. EVE Online is far better at any of the cutthroat element that GGG could ever come up with. |

" I have been under the impression that there is some kind of calculation going on here too. I dont know what it is but sure seem like I get more loot on my higher DPS builds, and FAR more rares then anyone else when I go with high IIR + big DPS. As far as I know there has not been a real discussion about this on the forums. |

The second a map/fuse/alch/chaos/etc... drops you see 6 people RUSHING towards this item.
Player X will to rush to pick it up, since it's allocated to him, and 5 others will rush hoping that player X is to slow / distracted for a second / unable to get there in time. Temp loot allocation is great when you're playing with friends, but a massacre when playing with strangers. |

d3 did loot right by making it instanced between players,
as the old saying goes , out of sight out of mind . if you dont see it then you wont have your day ruined when you cant pick it up. I have said since closed beta that the current loot system actively discourages cooperative play by making the loot ( which is arguably a thrid of the game) a source of conflict in groups. Its a fundamentally bad design. And is among other things why pubing is not a very good idea. |

Hehe, I thought I'd get flamed and yelled at for not liking the Perma allocation, but I see that I'm not the only one who kinda dislikes it :)
Nice to know, really :D |

" No kidding, I absolutely hate the fact that I can see what others are getting and simply will never ask someone to pick up and drop an item I might want. It’s dumb as hell when someone tells the party “hey there is a quality gem back here” and EVERYONE in the group has to walk half way across the map to see who’s it was. " I honestly felt better soloing with the old system knowing that people in parties had to share/fight over loot. Now there is no advantage at all to soloing, hell – group play is so incentivized already that it needs some discouragement IMO. *Just host a game and others can join and do the quest for you while you follow behind. Most of the time they will have the waypoints too. *Safety in numbers, stacking auras – much less likely to die from desync with several other targets for monsters to attack. I agree too, with the PA setting in every pub game I see - I DO feel like 1/3 of the game is now missing. " I assume you are saying SA or FFA are bad design? If anything I would say loot options are bad design, especially since one setting is EASY and the others require more attention and risk of loss. There is no point to even having SA and FFA if PA is an option, it’s just dumb. The only games I see set to FFA are people selling boss kills for orbs. The only games I see with SA setting are players who have not changed it to PA yet. Would have been much better if they just copied exactly what D3 did and go full instanced with no visibility on others drops across the board. This "options" crap is exactly the worst thing they could have done. … I actually played a game for a while called Realm of the Mad God, shitty graphics, simple game play, but it was all FFA loot and it was a freaking blast. Granted, it was not so fun getting started, but after you made a friend or two and learned the ropes it really was great – without loot tension there would have been no group dynamics there would not have even been a game at all. |
