The loot allocation and how it works
The instanced loot might be a good idea, yes.
However, it also might take away yet another "MMO element", and that'd be a shame, IMHO. Or how about some sort of World of Warcraft's "Need-Greed-Pass" loot distribution? Would need to be re-worked and tweaked so it works with PoE, but something similar to that just might work, if done right. It would also be easy to determinate the loot ninjas... maybe. Or just... well, guess ANYTHING else than the current system would work :D |

With sort allocation you get "loot tension"
With permanent allocation you get group interaction. If you are fighting over loot your not taking the time to chat with your group members. I would gladly trade "loot tension" for co-op socialization any day. IGN: Wrathmar * Paulie * Client

nothing spells good loot interaction like "dude thats my fucking unique give it back"
you dropped something i want , can i get it? you dropped something i want , can i get it? you dropped something i want , can i get it? you dropped something i want , can i get it? you dropped something i want , can i get it? you dropped something i want , can i get it? you dropped something i want , can i get it? you dropped something i want , can i get it? you dropped something i want , can i get it? you dropped something i want , can i get it? you dropped something i want , can i get it? you dropped something i want , can i get it? you dropped something i want , can i get it? you dropped something i want , can i get it? no thanks bickering over loot is lame and the RNG in this game cant be trusted to equally favor people , so one guy is always going to get more than everyone else , and one guy is always going to get less. that kind of thing never leads to good things Last edited by Saltychipmunk#1430 on Dec 5, 2013, 2:09:27 PM

" its funny, I do agree with you, but for perhaps different reasons. Thing is (with the old SA only system), once you man up a bit and accept that you will not get every drop that’s good, even if it fell for you initially and just accept that if they got it first after the timer ran out then 'so be it'. You just relax and find the game more exciting and engaging. With this PA setting I dont need to pay attention to almost 1/2 the game... In all my years playing D2 HC Ladders and PoE I never fought over items. When someone else got something good I would congratulate them and hope I snag the next one. If I got a few good drops already, I would not even try to loot anything for a while. Once you find others that share or are not so greedy you friend them. Asking someone to pick up an item and drop it for you is not socializing. Making friends (and having a reason to do so) and form groups of other likeminded people to quest with - that was socializing IMO. |

Do most people seriously play with loot visible in the middle of fighting? The game looks like crap with item labels all over the screen.
With SA, I would have to leave loot visible all the time, and stop in the middle of combat to pick stuff up. That's some crappy gameplay right there.
" Sorry, but nobody ever complained about 'gameplay' as an issue, you just push alt key to see whats on the ground. It would be stupid leave items visible at all times, yea. |

" Ok, but on short allocation, players are then incentivized to leave their loot showing at all times in the hopes of snagging drops that the player they dropped for hasn't even seen yet. At that point it does become a gameplay problem.
If you play short allocation as ranged, or anyone without perfect FPS or latency, you're not going to get any drops at all vs fast players...is why I personally prefer Permanent allocation. I don't claim any items are "mine" though, so I'm fine with short allocation too.
Permanent allocation also helps you to actually focus on the things that are killing you too, rather than 50% focused on mobs and 50% on items with short allocation. " I'm done sidetracking this thead. But timers worked fine for the last few years in PoE (except for people complaining about ninjas) and for the last 12+ in D2. Yes, some people stop and try and take others loot, but I also see people stop and just stand there in PA loot setting (or just follow half a screen back)because there is no need to really be up front and helping the group too. There are problems with all solutions as every 'fix' makes diffrent issues, my only point was that with 'options' the only setting thats really used is PA, and if thats what the designers wanted then they should just fix PA (hiding others drops etc) and make it the only way to play. |

I don't understand why they haven't included a simple feature like "FFA if you're more than 2 screens away", in other words the distance you don't get experience anymore.
That way everyone could concentrate on fighting during a fight and you could snatch an item of someone else if they have left it there. |
