The 3 difficulty mechanic is outdated IMO
" This so much. I hate going from feeling pretty bad ass to "ugh, everything slows me and has 3 times the hitpoints" back to Act I "Oh ok, I guess I'm a bad ass again" On topic: I hate the three difficulty thing. It seems like every arpg does it and it's annoying. It's as if they think their story is just THAT awesome. Let's be honest here, I've never played an arpg for it's story. NOT ONE. D2 was the first and only arpg that i've actually watched the cutscenes for and wanted to know more about the story. |

No offense but I don't see the difference, if there were 13 acts and it ended with the same difficulty level that we have now. How is that different?
Or is it just replaying the same areas that bothers you. "the premier Action RPG for hardcore gamers."

I love Act 3's pace, but Act 1 and 2's paces are way off. Some of that brutal Dominus difficulty should be spread out to Merveil and the Bandits. Don't need more retarded AI, a tiresome grind against zombies, skeletons, etc. Early Cruel and early Merciless are the only times I rush through the content without taking the time to worry about monsters actually being able to hit me.

" Matter of opinion like everything else. Most of us here disagree with you. |

Probably the only sensible decision Blizzard made with D3 was to introduce Monster Power (MP), this allowed you to play any act at whatever difficulty level you wanted and all the mobs would be of the appropriate level.
One thing PoE shares with D3 is the amount of obnoxious mob types as you go up through the acts. I really enjoy Act I and II but I dislike Act III in PoE, I think if the new mob trend continues I hope Act IV never comes out. I like the Piety and Dominus fights, but the trash is horrible to fight and their difficulty is scaled way up higher than the level of the zone. Ie, Act 3 cruel (especially scepter of god) is harder and less enjoyable than act 1 and act 2 merciless (assuming you still have resists covered). GGG has some balancing issues to deal with in that regard. Cruel should be easier than Merciless. Hillock Merciless should be more challenging than Dominus Cruel, otherwise the difficulty levels are meaningless. Dominus Cruel is harder than Hillock, Brutus, Merveil and Vaal (as long as you are not sitting under his smash). The only thing that is harder than Dominus Cruel is Act 3 Merciless. It is a big unnecessary cock-block into the next difficulty level, which is mostly easier until you get into the last act again. | |

I actually think that multiple difficulties, be it 2 3 or 4 is a good thing. It lets you play through content that you would otherwise never be able to get to. If they changed it to a single difficulty, most wouldn't even finish it.

Who decides what is outdated anyways? I always read this label being thrown around a lot.
Regardless, as previous posters have said I believe they are working on pushing out more content and swapping out difficulty. Seriously though, I love it when people say "gaiz we can't have (insert debatable mechanic here, permanency, skill choices, difficulty levels) because that is so 1999. (or something similar) What does that mean anyways? |
