Cybrix meltdown
|
Community is creating way more drama than there really is.
Still, those who were watching their run from the start know that Cyb was taking all the drops basically and arguing over every single pick up (I had quite a laugh when he argued over a mana flask claiming that he doesn't have mana regen and needs a larger mana flask, when his first passive is +40% regen). The main problem I think was kripp saying "you're ruining it for yourself", which cyb understood as "you're in it for yourself" - tired people, overreaction and drama. The drop system in PoE is great, it could use maybe a bit longer timers, you get these kind of people in every game, I still remember a long time co-player in our D2 guild stealing anni and running away. „I don't give a fuck if it was his tenth anniversary with his goddamn neckbeard...“
„If they think I'm going to let them sweep this pizza guy thing under the rug...“ No mod action. Business as usual. |

I was watching Kripps stream live when things went wrong. The "biggest" reason things went downhill was because Cybrix was talking over Kripp during his livestream. Obviously if somebody is livestreaming, its like you are on live television. Kripp was respectful and calm but Cybrix was raising his voice and not letting Kripp talk, so he was muted. Kripp kept talking to him in game text chat trying to convince him to calm down, go to sleep and think about what he was doing. It didn't matter, Cybrix mind was made up on the whole thing.

some people seem to think the poe community is the bright side of the whole internet, its not, its a good community for sure and i love it, but its mainly because its so small at the moment and people will remember you when you do shit
things like this happen very often when you play public games, someone always ninjas, i saw people ninja when they thought nobody could see it, the same persons that say "NOBODY NINJAS" when you first join the party, things are like they are, some people will always do it, i dont like ninjas but it keeps things interesting, i like the drop system how it is |

" It ain't pretty at times, try being a moderator on Twitch.. its like herding cats at times. We did our best to keep the situation contained but it kinda went on all night long :( |

Cybrix joins NoLife. Cybrix volunteers maps while he is asleep becuase he had great rng and got a lot of maps. Kripp used 1 of cybrix's maps and got 4 more to drop. Cybrix wakes up on the next map run. Cybrix learns 1 of his maps that he volunteers was used and sounds irritated. Cybrix runs a new higher level map with NoLife. Cybrix takes the next 4 map drops. Kripp asks if he is going to keep them or follow the rules they had been using. Cybrix says that the maps are his because they stem from the one he loaned. Kripp tries to tell Cybrix that they are the groups' maps. Cybrix talks over everyone, gets muted, gets angry, leaves, asks people to report kripp for botting.
Why join a team when you are selfish? Why give maps to use then get mad when they are used? Why yell over everyone instead of trying to solve the situation? Why try to sandbag them afterwards? Why make a big deal out of it when you wont be home enough to win the race anyway? He didn't do any of that to make people laugh. He just wasn't thinking clearly about the whole situation and instead of realizing he overstepped and just let it go he just snowballed his own drama. Given the way he acts he deserves everything that came to him via chat. |

" So what. The guy was an asshole. Does that give everyone the right to be cruel? No that's bullshit. Why not just act like a grown up and leave the guy alone? That last thing you wrote is exactly what's wrong. You're just keeping the filth rolling, and it's sad. It's bullying. Nobody deserve it no matter how stupid they are. EDIT: Btw, this is turning into Big Brother now :) Last edited by dornal#7489 on Dec 26, 2012, 3:10:52 PM

I kept going back and forth between kripp's and cybrix's stream. I ultimately felt bad for cybrix. I understand he can be selfish.. but still, he didn't deserve a lot of the things that were said on the twitch chat.

Nope, the inverted commas were very much warranted. Thanks to you all for confirming that!
In all seriousness, I am genuinely concerned that some of the behaviour and attitude I have seen on peripheral PoE communities will spill into the actual one more than occasionally. It's difficult for me to not draw a direct correlation between these sensationalist streamers, their avid fans and the increase in questionable behaviour in game, but I will continue believing that the drama can be kept where it belongs: in the streams that branch off the main body of water. Not saying that the gaming world has its Jersey Shore quite yet, but if it happens, it would be a shame to see the actual PoE community defined by its commentary about such secondary activity rather than their own experiences thereof. Maybe we need a subforum for discussion of streams and OMG you just WON'T believe what happened on last night's episode! We could call it Paths of the Sort-of Rich and "Famous". If I like a game, it'll either be amazing later or awful forever. There's no in-between.
I am Path of Exile's biggest whale. Period. |

" So Cybrix can act however he wants and it's up to the community to be the bigger man every time? I happened to be listening to the stream at the time and I didn't say anything mean about cybrix I'm just pointing out that you can't fault people for acting the way they did. The "PC" way of saying what I meant would be: People dig their own graves. It's easy to point the finger at everyone for their comments and hard to point the finger at Cybrix for his actions. It's almost as if you are adding to the disrespect; however, he was the source of the displeasure brought upon him and for that I, and many others, feel no remorse. Compare that to Kripp. (Who I'm sorry to say I don't like but somehow am entertained by him) He did not act the same way and therefore was not treated the same way Cybrix was. It's just a simple cause and effect scenario. |

" Like I said, myself and the other moderators tried to clean up chat as best we could. Kripp allows a very large space for people to express themselves in chat, and trolling is endorsed. The only things we don't allow, in general are over the top racist remarks or derogatory remarks (plus huge wall of text spams, link spam, etc). Not only are those just the general rules but they are also part of Twitch.tv's Code of Conduct. There are times where we are on a slippery slope but we do the best we can. what doesn't help is how easy it is to just make up a new Twitch account, because it's too simple for someone to come in the chat room and spew "omg cybrix is a *insert very obscene racial slur here*". You ban the person, he just makes like another five free accounts and comes back and spews the same hate speech. That doesn't happen often but it has been known to happen. While I do feel sorry for Cybrix cause I hate to see a friendship between him and Kripp get busted to pieces over something trivial like this, I take no sides and just continue do my job and moderate as needed (as fairly as possible). |
